I am curious to learn from all those affiliates who have been going at least 1 full year, which are the worst months for commissions? I am curious to learn how March is compared to the rest of the year.
Anyone able to give me an idea of the order of the months? Best to worst?

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best month:
    J F M A M J J A S O N D
    5 3 4 5 4 5 5 6 7 7 7 10

That's roughly true on a 5 years period with a mix of web sites.

Thank you Zeus. I have made just over $1,200 this month, so looking good for the rest of the year. I see that you have given May a number 4. I have heard that May is the best month for high end jewelry though, and I have a site dedicated to high end jewelry. I look forward to December this year.
March has been my best month by far, and I started July 2002. Steady increases until this month when I have had over 20 days in March with over 1,000 unique visitors.
I am just trying to figure out how much I am going to earn for the rest of the year if my traffic stays as it is. Although it should increase every month, as I am adding lots of content every day
My traffic in March has doubled that of last December

"THE HOLIDAYS" are the money makers for Merchants and Affiliates alike.

    October to December.

Biggest hit in December (as Zeus demonstrated with his only 10 vote next to a 7 for the second biggest month).
That's usually true for general merchandize.
Some businesses show a drop at the end of the year (especially business-to-business).

Other Branches are seasonal as well, but pretty much all of them are stong in december.

Example: Flower and Gift Sites take off in February (Valentines Day). They will get the 10 for that month, followed by December.
Interesting is, that Dating sites do also well during those months hehe.

Business-to-Business Sites are usually weaker at the end of the year and strong during the first quarter. That's because of the budgets.
Fresh budget for a new year and they start shopping. They don't do much in the last quarter, because their budget is already depleted or they don't do anything beause the holiday season is coming (don't touch a running system mentality).

June is always our quietest month and the first week in July. After that the back to school shopping picks up

Glad to have you Liz- one great thing an account manager can do for you here is to let you know top cities that were selling at any time last year to help target your site as well- just ask the question and we can almost always get you extra helpful info.

I spoke with affiliate managers at soccer.com, eBags, TGW, they are all quite different.

Soccer.com and eBags are big for Back to School; eBags, also summer travel. TGW gets hot April, May, June, Nov./Decv(time change and Father's Day, Christmas).

All I can say is "DAMN!!

I was headed for a record month in June but sales tanked on June 11th and I ended up having the worst month of the year. Commissions were slow at the beginning of this month as well but have picked up lately again.

Slow summer sales are a little bit of my own fault as well. The truth is that I tend to be a little bit even more sluggish than usual in the summer and don't get much work done at all (unless checking my stats every minute is work).

I've really only been in affiliate marketing for a little over a year now and am pretty happy with results so far. It is the best "return on my efforts" for any business venture I've ever been in. I can see that seasonal trends are just part of the biz and we have to go along for the ride.
