If you do promote coupons, what type of coupon do you prefer to promote or have you found most successful with your visitors?

    I actually prefer a combination.

    20% off plus free shipping.

The free shipping keeps the buyer from thinking they'd be better off going to a local store and the percent off gives them a deal.

    Best of both worlds.

The dollar off coupons seem to get a better response, guess that's why you see so many of them in recent years.

As for myself , I'm not so easily fooled by them

$10 off $100 or more sounds great without much thought behind it. Hey, it's ten bucks for free , right ? NOT ! In reality , it only means :
No discount for you , UNLESS you spend at least $100 , in which case, we'll give you a lousy 10% discount .

    BTW, I voted Dollar-Off Coupons

As affiliate don't get commissions on shipping fees, the free shipping is the best for affiliates.

The x dollars off y purchase is great for items like books, where it is easy to throw a few extra things in the box. In such cases the coupons increase the dollar amount of the sale.

They are a killer for stores that don't have convenient trinkets to toss in the box. If all the items in the store cost $40, then there is nothing to toss in the box to make a $49.95 order reach the magical $50 tier.

I like em all but studies have shown that you get the best response from consumers with free shipping deals. Also a merchant test this out:

    Product cost $200 Shipping $20
    Product cost $220 Shipping Free

And got better response with adding the shipping cost to the product and offering free shipping.
