They have an abnormally high return rate in the "brick and mortar" world where you can try them on before you buy them. It only makes sense that they would have a high return rate online. The 60 days and free return shipping probably adds a little to the return rate but IMO it adds more to the conversion rate.
I get a little when the Zappos returns roll in but it comes as know surprise.
In the brick and mortar world people will bring back shoes that are literally worn out and expect you to take them back because one of the laces broke. At least Zappos doesn't take those back.

It’s their blasted wonderful program.
They provide free shipping on returns.
As a consumer its great as an affiliate it means 99.9% returns remember its shoes.
