Hello folks,

Before I was directed to this board a week or two ago, I was already a part of the VMC Satellite multi-tier program. Since I'm not all that interested in recruiting for them, I joined them through CJ as well.

Other than some folks that were advertising their program, I haven't found much info good or bad about them here. Or if anyone else promotes them.

My question and/or problem is that between the old multi-tier program and the one at CJ, I've sent close to 900 unique visitors to their site with not a single sale. These visitors have come almost exclusively via PPC advertising, so the traffic should be decent quality.

Is anyone else here promoting this program and are you having results this lousy?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I've got them through CJ.

First off, at CJ they batch. And the transactions in the batch were usually actually made about a MONTH before the batch! So there's a looonggg delay. A real long delay!

*checking stats* The CR is low. For the year, it's been .6% (six tenths)! But the $75 commission has made up for it. This is with free SE traffic to highly optimized pages (in other words, those pages won't show up under some unrelated thing. If people find 'em, they're looking for satellite dishes!)

Thanks for the reply, Leader.

So if my CR were to be close to yours, I should have about 5 or 6 sales. That is low, so I'll just have to see if it remains worth it from the PPC end.

I haven't generate much traffic through the CJ links yet, but I was just getting concerned about the overall stats I was realizing. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and see how it goes.

Thanks again,

Chris B.

I have seen commission listed as both $50 and $75 for VMC.

Does anyone know which is correct?

Chris,

Interesting you brought up this topic. I was going to mention it myself.

You're not alone. I was also running VMC through CJ. I received 2 sales in 4500 click-throughs. Ouch! So just for the hell of it, I switched my links to the direct links with VMC. So far, I have 87 clicks and 1 sale! Seems like something fishy is going on.

Paul - If you get a sale for VMC through CJ, you get $75. If you get one through their in-house program, you get $50. But that program also has a tiered referral program that pays $15 for each sale your referrals get, and $10 for each sale you indirect referrals get.

Since I don't plan on getting any referrals, the $75 per sale seemed like the way to go. But the tracking through CJ is obviously jacked.

Thanks Dignan. Does your name happen to be Michael? If so, I'm part of a discussion board you run.

And I'm actually working from the opposite angle. I had better than 800 unique visits to their in-house affiliate program with no sales. And I just recently switched it over to the CJ program to see if there would be any difference. And as I said, it's virtually all PPC traffic from a place I've had decent results for cell phones.

Thanks for the feedback.

Nope, not me.

Now I'm a little scared that my results so far might be pure luck. Has anyone contacted VMC to get their side of the story?

By the way, Chris, what cell phone affiliate program have you found to be the best?

Just a shot in the dark, Dignan

We all make our own luck, right. I don't know about that or not.

And I haven't contacted them just yet, as I was only now starting to worry. And if you take Leader's post into account, perhaps they don't convert all that well for most people.

And I've only just begun with this affiliate marketing endeavor. The only company I have any experience with is In-Phonic via Cognigen, and I have received roughly a 150% ROI marketing via PPC's. I'm just now working on a different site that I've added some of the other wireless and merchants and am in the process of directing the traffic that way. So I won't know for a while yet.

Sorry I couldn't be much help on that.

That's using their internal system.

I don't know what to say. I've tried others, with about the same results. I pulled VMC and am trying a new one. Will let you know if it's any better.

Hello. I have some reasonable experience with VMC so can give you some advice on this:

Firstly, the reason why CJ.com conversion stats are lower than the direct affiliate program is that the direct affiliate program tracks telephone orders, but if you use a CJ link, the telephone orders are not tracked you can see this if you go to the contact us page, and look at the extension number. If you use a CJ link, the extension number is 1 which means that the order will be not be tracked to you if the person orders via telephone.

Secondly, with conversion, the conversion ratios depend really on how quality your traffic is. Personally I get about a 1.8% conversion ratio to sales BUT only 50% convert to confirmed installs with means an effective conversion of .9% I have over 300 sub affiliates, so here are some stats of visitors and sales from these sub-affiliates:

In summary, I don't this this is a perfect program ... there are problems with it, but I think it is better than all the other sat tv programs and other merchants have something to learn from the way it tracks telephone orders, but they shouldn't have two parrallel affiliate programs in my opinion.

Thank you profitpuppy,

So I guess that we simply have to make sure we drive enough decent traffic to make the low conversion ratio worth the effort.

Now I just have to figure out if I should just go back to the original two tier plan.

If the 50 banners on VMC's in house login area doesn't scream scam at you than any of the above numbers posted by real affiliates ought to.

I totally agree that it is very bad form for VMC to be putting so many banners and pop-ups on their site. It is very unproffesional, and gives them a scammy image. However it does not mean that the company itself is a scam. They are a legitimate company and sell products, so they are not a scam. But yes, this is one of the things that I don't like about their program ... it has a very scammy image. Despite this, I still think it is better than any of the other sat tv programs. i have tested most of them and got even worse results with the others.

Also with regard to the conversion numbers ... the above list does not indicate the quality of the visitors. For example, one guy who had over 50,000 visitors and no sales. This could have been pop-ups on his site, and yes you would not expect even one sale from 50,000 popups. However I had had highly targeted traffic, and have 100 sales for every 12,000 visitors.

I am not totally defending the program ... their are problems with it ... but as I say I think it is better than the others, and I think it is very good that it tracks telephone orders.

Thanks to everyone for all your comments. Interesting stuff. I agree that the loads of banners and cross-selling of other affiliate programs is in extremely poor taste.

I emailed Rick Rahim, the CEO of VMC Satellite. I asked him what the average conversion ratio is for his program. First he told me to visit the FAQ page. When I told him the answer is not available there, he wrote back and said that conversion ratios vary. I emailed him again and asked him for the AVERAGE conversion ratio of all affiliates. He got very rude and still never answered the question.

Not a good sign for the success one might have with the program or the amount of professionalism of the person running it.

Hi Guys, I joined up with VMC 2 months ago and was immediately turned off when they e-mailed me to try to join another affiliate program kind of comparable to Excel, SORRY Cognigen is my choice and never would I consider excel. I recently joined Rapid Satellite and got my first order, however, I'll let you know how they veer.

Thanks,

I'm getting about 1 sale per 2000 clicks with them. I'm sure you could do considerably better than that with more targeted traffic.

I signed up for their inhouse program, mainly out of curiosity, and was really turned off by their suggestions of spamming discussion lists and other spammy practices.

Hello Everyone,

I Agree and furthermore have dropped all links and mentionings
of satellite tv sales thru my businesses for the sole reason
that I have yet to see anyone really making money in this
business.

If anyone can shine light on a awarding experience, please
let us all know and don't keep us in suspense.

I sell pagers, cell phones, our own ISP company services with
Dial-Up, DSL,WIFI,T1's and more and tried to sell sat tv,
No Gotsies, however if it works for some, so be it and
congrats.Theres no money in Sat TV sales, JMHO.
