Is anyone out there experiencing seasonal retail blues?

What I mean by that is, are you finding that outdoor items are beginning to pick up and other indoor items like home decor and brand name fashions are on the decline?

    Is it just me?

I'd love to hear what other merchants are experiencing outside of the home decor market.

I've seen the home decor go down big time, not pushing outdoor to much though.

So are your seeing this all across the board. or is it just one merchant that you are working with?

This is awfully soon for the summer home decor slump to start....does it makes sense to you?

Last month took a little dip, but this month will be better I think. Regardless, my worst month this year is still better than any single month last year so I can't complain.

And if you have new sites don't even try
You can get a page from a new site up in the top 3 within 24-48 hours in a medium contested arena without spending a penny.

Its all about PR Share, great SEO, site structure and huge incoming links.

Hint on incomings and PR: All your similar products pages and sites should be linked together. This is natural as similar pages should be linked together. Using an SSI or PHP INCLUDE keep your link structure in a separate file and call it from each similar page. When you add that new page or site you add its link to that file and boom all similar pages under your control are instantly interlinked. (Be aware of link limits)

Note on PR: ITS NOT ABOUT SITES ITS ABOUT PAGES. Try to get your link exchanges from high PR PAGES. A link from a low pr page is worthless unless a study of its link structure and parent pages show an immediate rise on the way.

Sidenote: If you see a PR 3 site showing up in your backlinks you can rest assured as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow that that site will be a PR 4 or higher in the next pr update.

PR isnt displayed live but its affects are. (to a point. some benefits arent seen till the actual rollover) Backlink updates however are a whole separate issue.

    sorry you are right.

I was working under the misplaced assumption that a person owned and operated other sites that he/she could lend incoming links from.

    My apologies.

Can/does search engine rankings effect your sales from month to month even though you are using PPC's? and you are putting the money into PPC's to maintain certain levels?

If traffic is maintaining its previous levels then would this still be the case?
We are experiencing regular traffic levels but lower sales....and I can't figure it out?

I think the last Google update whacked a lot of sites and its full impact is still not understood. I know a major domain reseller had a "dip" of over $800,000 in sales last month, and the management thought it was "just seasonal". Looks like sales of expired domains with high GPR have plummeted.

    Be well.

Sales are really terrible this month, even using PPC on AdWords. I'm at a loss to understand this as reports show normal clickthroughs. There must be some other reason I'm sure. Perhaps people have no money to do any shopping??

that is exactly what I'm thinking...are people just thinking about purchases right now and saving up to buy a couple months?

I don't want to mis-read this unusual "dip" in sales or through it under the comfort blanket of "seasonality"

So far for April my conversions are off 90% with the same traffic from the same sources at cj. Other networks seem to be about normal.

    Whats the deal???

Our conversions are about 50% off what they should be. It seems that April is a just a crappy month.
I can only hope that next week picks up.

I had whole sites that were working but parked, not fully committed to hosts. had some hits but not anything special. Moved my main site to full hosting a month or so ago. Google, when given the allinurl:www.mysite.com quest only showed one page even though they had been sending people to other pages. Recently they jumped the number of pages they would admit to up to over 100. Several days ago I noticed my amazon.com hits went from 20-40 a day to 400-600 per day.

However, if you look at my total number of hits and visitors you'll see a gradual decline of 50% over the past 6-8 weeks.

Now I'm also wondering how widespread this is?

Way to throw out the baby with the bathwater!

Todays PR1 is tomorrow's PR6. Think about it. I have a site whose index was PR0 (penalty). With a couple inbound links and a content change, the site was a PR5 within 30 days.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: Discarding a link because of PR concerns is like saying no to a free Ferrari because it has Goodyears instead of Pirellis.
