    Hi, a general question.

I like to change the "text" of text links in cj. Is that allowed, or am I violating some TOS.

I am not talking about misleading or anything like that, but I like to write a program that hyperlinks text on the fly. Obviously the preset text will not work, and I have to come up with some common phrases that would match up.

You can put anything in the text field that you want to. Just make sure it makes sense to what you link to.

    Thanks Bob.

Is this an "accepted industry practice" or something that cj's TOS deems ok.

Check with each merchant's terms and conditions.

Certain merchants will state in so many words that all links/creatives must be published exactly as given/worded.

CJ terms and conditions generally prohibits misleading promotional content, and this certainly would include the use of given creatives in a misleading way.

But I've never understood why CJ will not enforce this among misleading incentive sites that lure visitors searching for additional discounts, when such do not exist, such as luring visitors looking for online coupons for a merchant that never offers such.

Again, check each merchant's terms and conditions ...why give the compliance department something to do?

As long as the text is not misleading or deceptive and you are generating good quality traffic and sales, most merchants are very flexible on what they allow you to do. I've only seen a handful of merchants who specifically restrict this, and they're generally merchants that aren't worth promoting.

    Hi,

I agree with Michael, I have a fair few modified text and image links....just ask the merchant.

When you find a merchant you really want to work with...speak to their Affiliate Manager and you will often find that they are only too helpful.

I promote a motorsport merchant on a different network and I have permission to use any picture I like from their web site. Obviously I have copyright notices in place but the end result is I get some nice looking pages...and the merchant gets some decent sales from me.

When you start making money with the merchant, then check! (Most would expect you change text to but a FEW don't allow it) Just don't mislead with the text - nobody allows that
