In a move that will determine the company's future use of adware, Verizon Monday unveiled strict new guidelines for using online targeting technologies. Verizon--one of the top national advertisers and the largest telecommunications advertiser--said that it would not utilize any form of spyware in any of its advertising or marketing campaigns, but would CONTINUE to use adware applications.

"Adware provides relevant ads to consumers when they search online for a product or service," the company said, noting that it has been using adware in its online ad campaigns to promote its DSL and Verizon Online product since late 2003.

Adware in this instance means ParasiteWareâ„¢

    Way to go Verizon, NOT!

I guess Verizon is totally clueless. Perhaps they think that adware is always totally on the up and up, and consumers just love it.

They would be wrong. Companies just don't seem to get it. PEOPLE DON'T LIKE CR@P POPPING UP ON THEIR COMPUTERS! I've yet to meet anyone who LIKES pop ups. Most people HATE THEM and close them as quickly as possible. The brief second a company's name or logo appears is only long enough to create a NEGATIVE impression of the company.

Why do companies insist on PISSING OFF consumers? They shove it down our throats until we gag on it. Verizon must be totally clueless.

VERIZON: Can you hear me now?

    NO!!

The last time I checked, granted it's been a while, the verizon program on CJ was run by a CJ rep (Danielle Stone). I guess that's why they like ParasiteWareâ„¢ so much

    You Nailed it Andy.
I refuse to by things from and advertise for merchants that use Pop-ups.

It's like putting an add for your business on the back of your car and driving around cutting people off so they can read it...

Since those adware people openly admitted they gave kickbacks to companies (networks) - I wonder how much of a kickback Verizon got for this little announcement?
