Hi there, am I glad to find a CJ forum!

The past few days I have spent fiddling around on CJ & Google (pay per click) trying to get a sale. I have brushed up on lots of marketing straitges & I am slowly building up my average CTR.

My problem is that as I do not have a website I am just using text links either by selecting them from the CJ text link option on taking the code from a banner. I now have about 300 clicks on my CJ accounts but not one sale is showing. However I have an Amazon associate account with also around 300 click & about 10 sales.

Does this sound right, as I would expected at least 1 sale through CJ, I check my links before making them live & they all seem OK. Is there anything else I can do to check its all OK??

If you don't have a website, how exactly are you using the code to get the sales?

You really should dig back here at the ABW forum for lots of helpful info (use the SEARCH feature). Many questions usually have already been answered and it is a great resource.

Also, it's a good idea not to mess with the code. You might not get the sale.

Welcome to ABW and good luck.

I Would get the code by using the "Text Link" from CJ
i.e for ebay its gives me the HTML

    "<a href="http://www.qksrv.net/click-xxxxxx-xxxxxx" target="_top" >www.ebay.com</a><img src="http://www.qksrv.net/image-xxxxxxx-xxxxxx" width="1" height="1" border="0">"

So I would just cut & paste "http://www.qksrv.net/click-1533215-5902069" & use that in my google PPC ad. Surely that should work??

I'm interested in your Amazon account with no website. I wasn't aware they accepted affiliates that offered nothing but ppc on Google.

What site did you list on your application to Amazon? Google.com?

I just made up a URL, took them about 48 hours to accept it, that was on the UK site. I applied this morning for a USA one so waiting to find out

Many merchants don't allow affiliate links used in ppc, some do. Yes, you probably can make money, but at some point, such practices cause ppc rates to get too high either forcing you out or causing the merchant to ban such practice. In my opinion, this is not a good solid long term strategy.

Get a good quality web site, and you will make money, one way or another.

    Paul,

Why would you post on a public message board that you lied to Amazon? These kinds of business practices will haunt you later... honesty might take longer and cost more, but it pays off in the end IMO. Go build a website.

I am not rich, nor yet rich from AM or my offline business. Would having more money make a difference. Who knows. We have a roof over our heads, a reasonable quality of life, and 3 square meals plus a day from our earnings.

    Amazing what greed will do.
This is the kind of post leaves me shaking my head.

I have always stated it's my reputation on the line whether it's in a customers store or working with a merchant online.
One thing that will never be questioned is my honesty and integrity. Even if my business fails, or for whatever reason ceases to be, my head will always be held high knowing the way I tried to conduct myself was never an issue.

    Paul,

I highly recommend that you put a website up - any will do. Just get one up. If Amazon ever finds what you are up to, there goes any chance of ever participating in their program again.

Amazon isn't picky about the type of sites they take in. A simple 5 page site about your hobbies/dogs will do just fine.

From there, you can bid via Google AdWords as much as you want without fear of being booted from their program. While you can make lots of money this way once you figure out what you are doing, it can also be an expensive learning experience if done wrong.

For the longer term, nothing beats having a website INMO.

I am planning to put up a site, I only did the amazon thing as it was recommended in some ebook I read (googlecash I think). Anyone would think I had murdered someone by peoples reactions. I am sure nobody on here has ever downloaded an mp3!

I will remove my Amazon links until I get a site up and running as I dont want to burn my bridges with Amazon

Ahh, so it was the book's fault? Naughty book. I think at this point my kindergarten teacher would say, "and if the book told you to eat horse shit, you'd do that too, would you?"

You didn't think there was anything wrong with lying?

It's worth repeating since I am the same way.

I guess I have to stand up and act the fool. I don't see the problem with not having a website. I don't see lying to amazon as a crime though I personally would have put n/a.com in the field.

I'm quite sick of the self rightousness proclaimed by abw members. I know for a fact there is not one person on the face of this earth that hasn't told a lie in some form or another.

I'm not saying good people like Walleye Warrior or Mr. Sal aren't ethical people. You are I'm sure but the poster isn't any worse than you.

Great post Heyder! I was just about to post along the same lines.

Many seem to forget they were beginners at some point. It's not always so easy to get going. I know people who learned internet marketing and eventually got really good at SEO through their experience with ppc advertising even though they still suck at building websites today.

I have tried, sometimes successfully, to sign up for programs with no websites, but I have never put a faked one to be accepted. And if I ever did, just like the original poster here, I would have never expected to be accepted. So is he really so wrong, or is Amazon just full of it with "we review ALL websites"?

When I read your post I had a strong urge to post my claps. Others beat me to it. It doesn't detract from my sentiments. Your feelings echo my own and it is an honour to work in the same field as the likes of you Walleye Warrior.

    All my best,

    amazon has their own robot.

it appears like it can connect one owner (probably by ss#) to his different amazon accounts and different domains/websites, not to mention that it is also looking for links that goes to their 404 page.

so pretty soon, this lack of website will be discovered.

from an ethical standpoint, can't really say that i don't bend some rules myself, but i identify what the rules are for and stay within what i assume to be morally acceptable.

from a business standpoint, having no website at all does not make any LONG TERM business sense.

It is not against the CJ TOS to sign-up without a website, as long as the applicant states he is doing SE marketing. He does have to fill in some sort of URL though, but it doesn't need to be real (I asked).

It would be nice if he were to put up a website though - and it sounds like thats what Paul is going to do - thanks Paul.
