I would love to go if it was not on the other side of the country....

I am hoping for something in the future to take place on the East Coast. Even if it is just a gathering of affiliates with a guest or two. Alantic City would be a nice place.

    Not a bad idea, Dak.

Maybe they could have a hoedown in Marlboro sometime. "BFU" The hotels are cheap too.

It seems to me like most events are East Coast, so I'm glad CJ is West Coast and will try to attend this year.

I have a question regarding CJU.

Is this simply a time for CJ to say how wonderful Ebates and MyPoints are and how much we should all be like them? Or is CJU really something worth going to...a place to gain information and make some real contacts that could be useful?

It sounds like a great investment if it provides real networking and learning opportunities.

    Anyone here ever been? Comments?
    Thanks
    Scott

Scott, for us seasoned marketers it is more a social event with a little deal making on the side. I hope to be there in September.

I'd love to go if it was just over the border, perhaps, but not in NYC (shudder). had enuf of that in the 60s.

someone have one in their back yard a few miles into NJ and I can almost call it a comfortable day trip. almost.

    Hmm, I'm tempted.

Akiva (or anyone who went last year): What is the affiliate/merchant mix like?

I was on the Affiliate Summit cruise last week and met lots of great merchants, if its mostly affiliates it may not be as useful for me.

CJU is mostly merchants, like most of the conferences, but the affiliates who attend these events are always worth meeting.

Akiva is right - Most of the benefit in attending is the networking that takes place outside the conference sessions, but I have always learned something in the sessions.

I'll be there for the third straight year.

    I think it is usually 60/40 - 60% advertisers/40% publishers.

I just might show up there...although I doubt anyone has anything new that's worth while.

Basically AM hasn't changed at all in 10 years.
You have to take in more money than you spend if you want to continue doing it.

Unless of course you are CJ and you can find some sucker investors to buy in on the come.

When MSN does their adsense type program, only SAS will be viable because of the pricing they have. The big 3 will be toast.

You simply cannot change the facts - it costs x per visitor coming in and you need to make x+1 to make a profit.

AM is all about traffic and that's what it will always be about.

I personally think that merchants are going to be forced to pay affiliates a flat fee of say $5/month+ just to post their links plus a percentage of sales in the future.

A merchant could pay $30 per affiliate plus say a % of sales and the cost for 100 affiliates would only be $3,000 which is about what it costs for ONE half page ad in a decent size print publication. 100 click thrus per day per affiliate equals 300k per month.

The big 3 networks will be Google Adsense, Yahoo Adsense and MSN Adsense.

Parasites cannot live in a CPC world.

Yeah, it takes months to get there in the covered wagon...

They do have fast ways of travel now days...why should it matter what part of the country it is in?

I look forward to the event this year, with Befree merchants thrown in too.

I always look forward to new announcements at these events, meeting merchants, seeing old friends... heckling Ebates..

I seem most of the negative comments about these events usually from people who never attend.

Go to the "university" ...have fun.

Keep in mind, the IRS is very aware that taxpayers may be tempted to write off personal expenses as business expenses. If an expense is only partly for business, you must allocate it between the business and personal portion. Have fun.

Don't be tempted to claim your bar tab at Fess Parkers as a business expense.

Reporting personal expenses as business expenses is considered by the IRS as fraudulent and/or criminal.

Thanks California for outlawing smoking in public places, but what are all those huge black clouds my airline decends through each time I visit? ...and why do I have to give up my fruit at the California state line, but if I have the CEO of Ebates on board I'm given a warm welcome?
