When searching for a merchant what promotional method do you look for? Are banners useful or are they compared to rubbing sticks together to get fire? I've noticed the most used link we have is a text link. I have to assume that is used mainly in ppc campaigns. Are datafeeds of high interest? Thoughts?

Banners are pretty useless, text links work best.

Personally I like any system that allows me to obtain or build links to individual products or any page on the merchants site as quickly as possible, by adding the merchant page url to a generic:

    www.merchant.com/affiliateID=123456&url=?????

for example where the ??? is any page.

There are plenty who will like a datafeed too.

If you do use banners, make sure you also include a text links under them (both for the same advertiser). You will probably get more hits on the text link but the banner will initially catch their eye.

Congratulations! Just shows I guess that there's almost as many ways of doing this as there are affiliates using those ways. Banners have never done anything for me.

I use a limited amount of banners for eye candy only - and maybe the odd click. I look at banners a free artwork. They add some color and break up a page that is mainly text.

For a "General" merchant link (not a datafeed)...

    1. I use a banner to catch their eye

    2. A text link for emphasis

    3. A brief paragraph to highlight the benefits

    4. A reason to by NOW (Can be as simple as "Limited Time Offer")
