    Friends:

I've just found out that I most likely have parasites on my computer. Can someone point me to how I can get rid of them? And it needs to be free.

    You can try

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/scanner.php

(FREE Dox Desk like utility. They are supposed to have a Active-X scanner up soon since the javascript method is not reliable)

    http://www.xblock.com/download-freeware.shtml

(Free limited version, their software attacks keystroke recorders more, but also a fair amount of malware).

    http://www.spywareguide.com/blockfile.php

(doesn't remove but sets kill bit to block future installations based on CLSID. Pretty interesting methodology.)

    regards,
    Wayne

I downloaded and ran the program Haiko but you have to pay to get the files removed. Surely there is a way to do this for free?

    Jackson,

write down all the confirmed files then run ad-aware ( http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ ) see if any files are not included in the ad-adware detection, ad-aware is free.

The http://www.parasiteware.com/ site says at the top: "Donate to help fight Parasite Ware $(enter amount) and Protect your computer with ParasiteWare Eliminator.

Does that mean if we donate something, we'll get the software for that amount?

    Kinda confusing.

    Thanks!

    Jackson,

    45 to 2 is impressive!

    Paul,

No it's a donation or buy the software. I'll make it much clearer, thanks.

Hi Haiko, I havent been here for awhile and am getting used to the changes in posting replies, etc.,but I have a question.Whenever I run my WinDoctor or whatever its called, from NSW2002 after the 1 button scan has found an error, it comes back as a file listed as -mscoree.dll-and I cant get rid of that thing no matter what I do!! Will it do any damage if left ther? or do you know of a way to get it out? I have tried suggestions from the past and it did not help, so I dont know what this thing is!! Thank-you!! Susan

Haiko, you misunderstood me. I only 2 files found with Adware but if I rerun the spyware checker it comes up with 45 files. For some reason Adaware isn't finding most of the files

    Susan,

Doing a google search for that file shows that it seems to be a MicroSoft system file for the .NET Framework. You can see some of the stuff here http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...=mscoree%2Edll Most of the google returns are from message boards from people having problems if the file is missing.

I never delete a file if I don't know for certain what program it is associated with or what it is for. I'll do a google search for the file name and will usually turn up something.
