I hope I do not sound rude and offend anyone. I have been browsing through this site for hours now. I am very interested in doing this but I have no experience. There are PLENTY Of forums and plenty of posts but nothing as simple as a basic newbie walk through. Maybe I am blind and just could not find it.

It is easy to get specific questions answered I see but I weant a noob guide, something to give me a general idea of how to do this from A to Z. I like to have all my ducks in a row before I tackle something of this nature but I cant seem to find the information I need. So if some one could tell me if that information exists I would be much appreciated.

    Build a web site.
    Join cj.com
    Join merchants at cj.com
Put links to merchants on your web site.
Someone goes through the link and makes a purchase you get a commission. When you get the hang of it join some other networks.

Thats the easy part. The hardest part is you have to attract people to your web site. So start by building a site about something you know. Sell what they search for.

If they come to your site looking for info on blue zingers and you only sell green widgets you are going to have a hard time making sales.

It's a small world... possible affiliate marketer from Wilkes-Barre??? My brother lives in lovely Pringle.
Anyways, the 'idea' behind a site is critical, building a small site isn't so bad. Once you have your site available on the net, join Commission Junction, it's free. Once you've joined CJ you can apply for programs that relate to your site.
Next get traffic to your site and collct your commissions.
    Good Luck!

Rosalind Gardners book is really good for beginners. I am not sure of the exact name, but it was released in the summer of 2003, so it is still very current.

I own it. And it is very valuable for a beginner, if you want to spend some money.

I tried that ebook (how I made 400k etc), I guess it's good if you're a complete newbie to ALL aspects of this business.

I found it too basic overall and there seemed to be a little too many affiliate link plugs of her own and no real solid example sites of hers besides the dating ones.

If I got in on the ground floor of the dating site boom I too would be filthy rich :P

    Hi,

I think she pretty much just runs dating sites for her affiliate business. I read her newsletter, and it sounds like she has around 3 dating sites, with the one she mentions in the ebook, being the biggest producer of the 3.

Yes the ebook is great for a general understanding of the affiliate business.

Site Build It (Ken Evoy) is how I started - they have a free course to get you started...it's a bit outdated now but I find that I keep going back to it to gain more insights on things that I may have missed out on...It does however really only promote content sites (which I know a lot here don't think brings in sales as much as a pure sales site) but google does seem to prefer content sites...

I agree that the free email course from Ken Evoy is about as good and basic as it gets. Rosalind Gardner runs dating and casino sites utilizing mostly Pay per click engines. Here is one of hers http://sage-hearts.com. The best thing to do is get started and learn along the way. Things change daily online.

Since it is a new year I thought I would put forth a varist effort at affiliate marketing. I tried a little bit last year and didn't really get anywhere but before you get tired of this post let me get to the point. Kakarot good question it sums up how what I wanted to ask? Now, Jane how do I or where do I learn to build a website? What kinda site do I build?
