I have seen some breif mention of this in a few discussions but do fully understand its purpose or how to create it. Is there a thread I'm missing? Could someone help me to understand this file better and its importance?

    Thanks.

Depends on what you need to use it for.

If you don't need it for anything, then, well, you don't need it.

SOrry if that answer is vague. If you have a specific application you need to implement, then somebody could tell you how to set it up, or otherwise direct you to an article that shows you. You could do a google search for "htaccess file" if you're in the mood.

.htaccess is a unix file that is used to control the way your website is used.

Some of its common uses are password protected pages, and redirects.

    Hey Jason,

Another common use is when you want to run PHP on your site but you want to show the .html extension rather than the .php extension. .htaccess can make it so your server parses .html files as if they are .php files.
