How do I find the most active searched word? For instance--What is the most popular word that people are putting into Google? Is this information availabe online anyplace? Somebody said at www.alexa.com but all they have is a top sites list. I seen people selling these lists for $200.00. THats too much money for me. There must be a place online for free . I don't see a top keyword list. Did I look in the wrong place? Thanks for your time.

Get Good Keywords free from Softnik Technologies.

But, you are better to try for more obscure terms especially if you are new and do not have a high ranking site.

I didn't see any top searches on that site. But that software is good for finding good keywords for our websites. I was looking for page similar to this one. It shows the top searched words on aksjeeves. I was looking for the top searched words on Google or the whole WWW. I thought I seen it on Google before but seemed to misplace it and is unable to find it again. http://sp.ask.com/docs/about/jeevesiq.html?o=0

Best way to do it is to find keywords as per the theme of your website. Try using this.. This is free but you can only see the number of searches made for any specific keyword you type in.

The ticker here has the top 25, but the site is great for keywords.

There's a top 500 search terms over at Search Engine Guide:

    Search Engine Guide

I'm not convinced it's that accurate though

WordTracker offers an entire suite of services to help find popular keywords, related keywords in your topic, number of competitive websites, etc.

If someone else mentioned this or there's a reason they didn't, just ignore me

Edited to add - ahh, I see, Haiko's link is to WordTracker

Wordtracker is the one for me. It costs £5 per day but is worth every penny.

You can find some really good niches. I don't pay too much attention to the HEY ratio though. All keywords only have 10 compettitors. Those that appear on the 1st page of the SE's

It doesn't work as well if you want to target a specific country though.

Overture also have a usefull tool which is free.

Thank you everybody for all the help with keywords. Every post was helpful

I noticed alot of poeple are advertising for firefox. Is this because IE is vulnerable to cookie stealers? Are they affiliates for firefox? I thought IE patches the holes as soon as they are found--as long as the IE (Internet Explorer) user keeps active on their update patches.
