As of today. No notice from them, no notice from CJ.

Please tell me it's not just me?

I dumped that place quite awhile ago. But I remember that, that used to happen occasionally and then they'd be back in a day or two...

Aaaaaaarrrrggghhh! Thanks for the info Leader.

I only promote one product through them that I can't find anywhere else. Fortunately it's only bought at the holiday season. Unfortunately this IS the holiday season!

Have been talking to Cat City for the past few weeks.

CJ shut them down out of the blue for no reason....other than what they intend to do 11/1. Enough said.

This shows how childish and unprofessional Commission Junction actual is as CJ is not living up to its contractual obligations.

    bob95603,

I beg to differ – catalogue city is no more than software enabled affiliate posing as a merchant.

I am not sure what’s going on with them but I have been complaining about that company since 1996. It’s a good thing to see them gone!

Does that mean shop.com is affected too? Aren't they like catalogcity but in the UK? I only just signed up with them - no links up yet.

About a week ago, catalogcity was deactivated from performics, too. They did send a notice before deactivating themselves from performics though...

Beg to differ about what? And they're not gone. One of the points you miss in complaining that they are a software enabled affiliate is that there are a lot of companies at Catalog City that do not have affiliate programs themselves.
Do you complain about Amazon.com also?

    Oscar,

Shop.com is in the US also.

Sure, CC is an affiliate itself, but it *is* a bit like Amazon and its third party stores. It was quite useful on CJ as an aggregator, and I've made a reasonable amount of money in the past from them.

What do CC intend to do on 1st November?

Yes, CC is not a real merchant but is handy for finding that odd product found nowhere else.

Perhaps they've got the resources now to start their own network.

    I hope they stay gone.
I am tired of weeding through their 10 zillion "items" when I am looking for something in the product finder.

Ouch, they are an easy answer to finding quick niche products. I've got them stuck randomly throughout my 26 sites, lol.

If they've deactivated from Performics, they may indeed stay gone from CJ this time as well.

I just looked at CatCity's affiliate signup page (on their site) and it talks about signing up for Shop.com instead of CC. I don't know if that's new, but it seems pretty strange. At CJ, Shop.com IS listed as an active merchant but they have their commish in GBP...

That's what confused me...All their products are listed under GBP but they are clearly associated with CC...

I talked to the AM and she said that they're moving over to Linkshare and changing their name to Shop.com. They hope to have this done by 11/1.

I got the CJ deactivation notice the day after the were deactivated, so it looks like it was just a slow notice rather than no notice.

I remember what happened when they first came to CJ... This migration could get interesting...

    Well that's it then.

Bye-bye CC, you bet on the wrong horse. If they couldn't make art.com's catalog work how the hell they'll get yours to work is beyond me.

NO matter how hard I tried they never made very much money for me. It's actually a good thing they did this, it game me a reason to just get rid of them. Also, doing a thing like this 2 months before xmas in inexcusable. This is the prime selling season for those of us who are in the gift business, any changes now is not a good thing from a sales point of view.

They've always done well for me. Nothing outstanding, but there's a lot of potential there. I forget how many million products they have. Some merchants are available directly with higher commissions, but many aren't available anywhere else. I realize that they're a middleman, but I had no problem with a middleman that adds value--for instance, Google AdSense or the affiliate networks.

Average to good conversion which is a little surprising considering all those text ads they've got plastered everywhere. Other merchants I run which don't try (or not much) to divert the traffic elsewhere generally have lower conversion than CC so go figure.

They also gave me access to some really sweet product links, links I could not get anywhere else or I would have had to join an indie program which would'nt accept me based on my location anyway and even if they did would send tiny cheques that if I cashed I would end up owing the bank money due to the fees.

Their links kept going 404 that was the real problem, not their being a middleman, who cares, how many 'merchants' at CJ or anywhere else can't also be considered middlemen in many ways, they're sure not the manufacturers as a rule.

As an aside I hear Value Line are shifting to LS as well.

Hello, I am a new member. I have about 800 pages loaded with Catalog City products. I hope they reactivate, but if they are going to switch to LS, then I REALLY have work to do before the Christmas crunch. lol

I am removing Catalog City links as fast as I can. If they reactivate OR move to LS, I will never use their links again. What a dirty trick to do this to all of us just before Christmas.
