FWIW, I've noticed that my browser got hijacked by something called Golden Retriever, put out by Shopathomeselect.com. This thing looks WAY more evil than the usual scumware... First off, it burrows itself into your winsock! Then it seems impossible to uninstall. Finally, I've never heard of these guys. These unknown players present the biggest threat to us, IMO. The bigger players seem to be obeying the rules, but these fringe types, who knows? It seems to redirect quite aggressively, and isn't messaging at all... What gives? Why has nobody made any noise about these people? I have NO idea how it got on my system, so beware!

    It's boycott time!

    nsps,

First hello and welcome to ABW.

The Golden Retriever application has been discussed here at ABW. Here are a couple of threads: http://abw.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&...361#6666062361 and http://abw.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&...9&m=1466070321

Be sure to take a look at the links that Andrew provided. He's the man for getting this stuff off your computer and his website is indespensable.

Many of the parasiteware issues are also now being discussed in the Private Parasiteware forum. You know....away from prying eyes.

Andrew, can you elaborate on this a little, because there is a graphics card utility called PowerStrip ( http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm ). Is this the same thing you're talking about, or is there some other program out there with the same name that does something completely different ???

No, it's not the graphics tweaker PowerStrip (which is pretty useful), it's an unrelated piece of marketing crap. I should probably put a note on about that, hmm.</p>

    Charlie,

The oficial site appears to be thepowerstrip.com not powerstrip.com

Drewbert I'm amazed that a 2 page website with 200 words probably qualifies for premier merchant status at our favorite affiliate networks. http://thepowerstrip.com/

Can we say this wank wants to keep out of the Whois database.....LOL

Golden Retriever is also currently being installed by Grokster which is enjoying new found success in downloads since the judges sided with them.

I've been wary of this partnership and have been looking into this and contacted them.

Last November it would seem they were given a clean bill from Haiko and given a thumbs up from others. What's the deal? Have they reverted to commission stealing practices?

    Rick,

Unfortunately they are back at it.

Marc Looked me in the eye and said he was clean on Nov 6, but that has blatently changed!

TigerDirect dropped them earlier today based on info I sent them.

    BEWARE!!!!

They sure were giving me the spiel at the linkshare symposium, but I let ShopAtHome know I knew about their little retriever and wasn't going to be selling any catalogs for them!
Funny how they don't mention that in the affiliate program, how once they get the customer they solicit them with the Retriever to steal from you.

Thanks for the heads up Connie. I nver bothered to check out my links to ShopatHome or the ShopatHomeTV. Never reached minimum on either of them so no check=no real exposure.

Shoremark ...they are at BeFree. Seems BF is home to the most NETtorious Duper HBOs. Hosting eBates -Gator -Dealtime and a slew of .com bombs run by real con-men all seeking exposure for the sleezy FREEBEE traffic games and spamming list generators.

    Done.
Just sent my contact there a note of explanation specifically citing their use of the Golden Retriever utility and suspended this account.

    Thanks Haiko,

Desperate merchants seeking ways to bait and switch shoppers because their lame infomercial site sales aren't enough to feed their greed. How many merchants on the networks are just affiliates in disguise??
