    Re: Code to KILL NORTON?

The other day a friend took a look at my site
on a test hard drive he had set up with Windows 2000 and the latest (I think) Norton.

All my ads were gone!! Every last one of them, so I am told.

I wonder does anyone know where I can get script source code that I can put in the Head or Body of my web pages that will KILL NORTON???

I use a JavaScript frame buster to break out of frames at the end of my Head. Works well on two notorious metasearch engine sites that I have tested it on. Haven't had any problems with it that I am aware of. So I am not opposed to the judicious use of JavaScript.

Or do I have to go with redirects? Or a warez site?

    Any suggestions or alternatives, anyone?

RadarCat, I think you should ask SandraR about that script, if you look at her sig on her posts, you will see that she have a link to one script that might do what you're looking for.

You should search the CGI/PHP forum, there is a solution there, but you'll have to dig a little to so it.

I found a script to hide the affiliate link from Norton's blocking by Chez Noir at:

    Thank you for the link!

Thank you very much for your post and the link

    to:

I will study this very closely!

It seems that I recall that Norton is being loaded up a many new computers from the factory.
This can only cost affiliate networks, merchants and publishers more and more commission losses in the future if something is not done about Norton making everyones ads disappear.

It is time to start banding together on this issue, folks!

    Thanks, again!

Hi, Thanks for the link, it looks very promising.

However, it will be some weeks before I can test
it out as I am in the process of moving (my 4th straight time to move during August in south Texas - yikes!) and am now in the process of putting my web site on autopilot for a while until I get reorganized.

If anybody out there wants to test this and post results here, please do so.

    Thanks again, Mike!

I managed to find some time to take a good look at:

    http://www.adblock.org/article_adblo...on_script.html

I am seriously considering adding this script to my site but need to do further study on this code before I make a decision.

    Thanks, Mike,

Please correct me if I am worng....

The Norton anti-blocking trick is not useful for Google Adwords campaigns because Norton have killed the Adwords so, no norton user will reach you page through an Adword...

I have heard that links can be disguised from
Norton by using the htaccess directory on an Apache server. Any links or info on how to do this, anyone?

    Thank You!

I was interviewed for a story about Norton for *Small Business Computing* Magazine. It was specifically about Norton blocking affiliate links. Hopefully they will print what I wrote and it will help somehow to make a difference.

I know this is the CJ thread and I applaud CJ for doing something about it, but Norton is still affecting other affiliates links and this is the newest thread I could find on the topic.

Let you all know when the article is published.

Google Adwords were being blocked by Norton in
the past, because they were using the word
'adclick' in the url, and this is one of the
words Norton is blocking if it is in the URL.
This was only for people that were using the
conversion tracking feature with Adwords, if you
weren't using the conversion tracking feature
your ad should not have been blocked. Google
has since changed their URL's to using the word
'iclk' now, and I don't think they are being
blocked now. I don't have Norton on my
computer, but someone with Norton may want to
check this out and see if Adwords is still
    being blocked or not.

AdWords (the results in Google searches in the right hand column) were never being blocked by my NIS (NIS 2004). AdSense ads on content sites were being blocked.

Lately more and more AdSense ads are clickable. At first it was only one out of a block, now it is rare that I can't click on an AdSense ad.
