    Hi

Just started using webmerge and I've encountered my first small problem...

I would prefer to name my files based on the info in a catagory or subcatagory field - but in the feed I am using, there is often an apostrophe in this info - for example, the catagory may be written as "Men's Clothing"

This results in a file being named as ..

    Men_s_Clothing.html

(webmerge replaces the apostrophe with an underscore)

Obviously, this will still work fine - but it looks pretty stupid - nobody would name a page like that if they were building it by hand!

Any chance of webmerge fixing this in version 2.3?

Ideally, I would prefer to name the page "mens-clothing.html" (ie no upper case and hyphen instead of underscore) - but we don't get any control over that either.

Anyway, that's just me being picky I'd be happy if you could just fix the apostrophe problem for now!

"&" are also a problem (ie. L&M cigarettes from BigDaddysmokes feed).

I think WebMerge is instructed to replace all non-ASCII characters with an underscore. Not that it can't be changed - but it's way more complicated than you think.

I've also had suggestions for WM's author regarding putting more flexibility into the file-naming process.

He's mentioned to me and others that the best way to get your desired changes to him for prompt consideration is to send them directly to him via the fourthworld website, rather than just posting them here and waiting for him to see them.

I'm still experimenting with the free trial download at the moment - so I don't really think I have any right to be sending in support emails yet.

But I'm sure I will be buying it shortly

It could be worse: If WebMerge didn't conform field data to Web server specifications your users would get a 404.

You can, of course, use any field data you like for the page TITLE, which is the only thing your user will ever see and of much greater significance for search engine indexing.
