I'm new to this Webmerge thing - I've figured out everything except the part about preparing your source file

Can someone please explain how to export the datafeed file using excel ?

Strange thing is - when I was using the trial version of Webmerge, I didn't even bother doing this first stage - but everything worked fine.

Now, using a different feed - WebMerge will not run - it say's 'unable to open file'

Sorry to ask such a stupid newbie question - I've never even used Excel before - never had any need to!

    Andy

I've saved it as a text file, but WebMerge still won't open it

I did get a message saying something like 'if you save this as a text file, you will lose some feature or other, do you want to go ahead and save it?'

I didn't understand what the hell it was talking about so just saved it anyway and hoped for the best

    Any ideas?

Close your excel if it's open, close them both and then import into WM.

Webmerge will not run if you have the file open in Excel. You have to close the file before you can run Webmerge

You could always only ever use datafiles that have been prepared properly in the first place. It is amazing how many mistakes I found in one datafeed, even spelling mistakes!

Not as obvious as it seems. Also, try to save as "tab delimited" text (.txt), that will work okay for sure. Andy and cjshopp. are right about excel, you'll end up with a sharing violation. It's better practice to close it anyway. You can also save the file in ".csv" format, but to be safe "tab delimited" is a sure bet.

Lastly, you are right about clicking ok about "not" preserving the formatting. Let us know how it goes.

    Hello all,

I am I guess newer to this datafeed/Webmerge thing then Tiebreaker..

I am trying to get it work. I assume if Webmerge produces a html file that, it should come with thumbnail pictures etc. Can you tell me if this assumption is right?

Further is there somekind of tutorial with steps you can take to produce a first page? Also can I get somewhere a sample datafeed which I can use to try Webmerge with?

I hope some of you can help me with these above questions.

    Thanks.

    Istvan
