I use dreamweaver mx along with webmerge to develope pages for my site. In the html template files I have a constant proble where dreamweaver will constantly change my webmerge tags.
For example...here is a section I use to show a larger image in a window:

onClick="MM_openBrWindow('[WM-Field: field_xxx]',''......

when the file is save in dreamweaver the link is changed to

onClick="MM_openBrWindow('%5BWM-Field:%20field_xxx%5D',''.....

Has anyone came acrossthis problem?? I am guessing that there is a setting some where in dreamweaver that I need to adjust. Does anyone know where that would be??

Thanks
Doug

Why am I wasting my time doing this???

Look in the "Code Format" section of Dreamweavers preferences and the "Code re-writing" section of preferences contains two choices that need to be deselected (both under special characters section):
1. Encode special characters in URL using %
2. Encode <, >, & and " in attribute values using &

I think that will fix your problem.

I also get %20 being added by Frontpage, sometimes, and screwing the pages up, it's easy to fix using find and replace but it's a pain in the a*** and I'd like to workout how to stop it.

I had the same problem in front page when I would create different templates from one base one.

I would go to fp source code, copy then paste into a new page. Then saving it would cause the problem.

Way's around:

1. close the initial file before saving the new one.

2. Copy code and paste to notepad, then select all in notepad and paste into the new fp file. Save new file in frontpage, then edit.

Now I don't have the %20 problem.

Doug, did happypoon's suggestion work for you?

Also, don't forget. You can use the "raw" command in the tag, in order to prevent webmerge from changing any of the html into something else.

The raw option works great for preventing WebMerge's normal conversion of non-ASCII characters into valid HTML character entities, but I'm afraid there's nothing we can do about HTML authoring tool that are too smart for their own good.

"[" and " " (space) are valid characters in HTML, and it's silly for programs to rewrite them. The exception would be when a WM-Field tag is used inside an "<a>" tag, where the authoring tool might have reason to believe that the link should be cgi-encoded. But the better HTML authoring tools leave you in control of such things; both Dreamweaver and GoLive offer ways to prevent having your code mucked with; I haven't worked with FrontPage, but unless the designers are as sloppy as Microsoft's security team they should have an option for that a well.
