Hello,

I recently downloaded the trial copy of WebMerge experiment with it and I have a question.

When creating index pages, how would I create a link to a detail page using my own text? For example, I want to provide a link that reads "Click here for details" and have that link to the details page of that product, but if I use the [WM-FIELD], it will actually print that field, which I don't want it to do.

My code looks like this (minus the value I place in the Click here for details section):

    [WM-RECORD]

[WM-IMAGEPATH: URL_to_thumbnail_image]

    [WM-FIELD: Name]
[WM-FIELD: Description nolink]

    [/WM-RECORD]

    Any help would be appreciated.

    You can say that again.

So does anyone know the answer to this question? I'm on the fence about buying WebMerge.

    Adam;

This depends on what field you are using to create the filename for the detailed page. Generally, you want to use the PRODUCT-ID or SKU field. Assuming that the linking filename field that you are using is called "PRODUCT-ID" here is how I think that you would insert the information/link using Webmerge:

The following shows this as part of the entire code that you posted:

    [WM-RECORD]

[WM-IMAGEPATH: URL_to_thumbnail_image]

    [WM-FIELD: Name]
[WM-FIELD: Description nolink]

    [/WM-RECORD]

Buy Webmerge. You will not regret it!

    Hi Frank,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that line of code doesn't work for what I'm doing. The problem is that the field I'm using contains spaces, so when a filename is created via Webmerge, it automatically adds the underscores. However, when I try to create a link by just using the field, it inserts it verbatim, and thus doesn't match the filename of the file.

Isn't there a command that would let you insert the link to a details page without the field? That seems like it would be a very useful function.

For example, what if I wanted to use a graphical button called "Info" and when clicked, it would take the visitor to the details page? From what I can see, there's no way to do that unless you use a field without spaces for your filename. Maybe create a new flag called "rawlink" which could be used like this:

That would print the link to the corresponding details page without printing the value of the field.

    Adam;

    I see what you mean.

The simpliest way to workaround this limitation (while waiting for an update from Richard) would be to use the replace command in Excel to edit that field containing the spaces and replace all of the spaces with "underscores" or "hyphens" before it is processd by WebMerge.

By the way, if you use the nolink method then you would also need to code in the file extension as follows:

Just bumping this thread to see if I can get a response from Fourth World on whether this can be done or if this feature will be added to the next update.

    Thanks,
    Adam

i know this is similar to what you mentioned but this worked for me.

    ( Buy Now )

and on the details pages tab / generate file names
    "product name"

i have the ( Buy Now ) link in the index pages going to the details pages. it must be the combination of the nolink raw and the settings on the details page that did it. sorry i am confused too.

    hope this helps.
