The only way I am aware of that webmerge can create directories is as follows ...

1 Set the filenaming option to create filenames based on the contents of a field.

2 Then modify this field by placing "directory/" in front of the name eg..

If the field says "widgets/redwidgets" , webmerge will create a directory named "widgets" and create a file named redwidgets.html in that directory

My question is - can you create directories in any other way? The method above is going to require a lot of work manipulating the feed.

Just a thought for Richard to consider ....

In webmerge, where you are asked to select the directory in which to place the generated files - why not have an option to choose a directory based on the contents of a field?

You offer this option in the "select a template" section - and in the "filenaming" section - so it would look consistent with the current set up.

Don't know if other people would find that useful - maybe they will chime in with comments - but it would sure help me.

Haven't gotten that far, but to replace an existing site and not lose pages spidered I will need to create directories based on content of the manufacturers field. Then have the products for that manufacturer in that directory with one index page and links to the detail pages. They can all be in the manufacturer subdirectory.

This is a major site and making the change will be a huge accomplishment for me so that I can add other products to to site besides what is offered by the one merchant.

Good suggestion, noted for a future version.

Thanks for taking the suggestion onboard Richard.

I guess this means that there is currently no way of creating directories? - apart from the technique I described.

Not currently, but I'll see if I can add it as part of the new file naming options in development for v2.4.
