Try sorting by the category field first. You can set that in WebMerge's Sources tab.

I don't understand: a blank screen in WebMerge or a blank page in the browser?

What do your tags look like?

say like this with x being a category name (i have them in 3 columns)

xx
x
x

x

x

xx

instead of like this:

xxx
xxx
xxx
xxx

etc, this is after sorting by category. i have not got any html in between my code or anything. the pages of items are all ok, its just my index page going loopy!

any ideas would be great,

A blank screen in the html file created If I set it to sort by category. If I dont check the box to specify by what field to sort then I get all the categories but there not grouped together. Example was previuosly posted as to how they are curently turning out.

To sum up, I get duplicate categories when leaving the sort by category unchecked. When I check the sort by categories , I generate a blank html file.

Here is my code

[WM-RECORD][WM-IndexLabel: CATEGORY]
[WM-FIELD: CATEGORY]
[/WM-IndexLabel][/WM-Record]

Thank You

Jeff

Double-check that the delimiters are appropriate for the source file you're using to rule out any parsing problem.

Then do check the Sort box -- otherwise as you've noted the categories will not be grouped together and you'll get unexpected results.

What is the version number shown in the About box?

It was a double pipe type feed ||..so I had to manually enter || it in the field names and data box ! However , after I do this the presets will revert back to none but still leave the || delimiters as I typed it in the box.

My data and field names match each other in the box and are aligned perfectly across from each other.

Thank You

Standing by the monitor the rest of the night...so if anyone has a clue please post.

Thanks again

Jeff, one of my feeds comes with "double pipe" delimiters. But when I imported it into one of my db editors, it showed as pipe space pipe.

It took me a while to figure it out...I had a column with data in it, then a blank column, then data, etc.

I used the delete column edit option and got it back to what it should have looked like. I just exported it as pipe (single) and WM took it like a champ. Cat's worked fine.

Yes, that's appropriate: once you modify the delimiters they no longer match the preset, so the Presets control updates itself to reflect the change.

We may be at the point where I can provide the best service seeing it firsthand. Please send your settings file, template, and a <2MB portion of your feed as a compressed attachment to me via email at webmerge@fourthworld.com and I'll see what I can do.

Sorting within Excel should have taken care of this. Did you sort in Excel and then re-export the data? This was something that I forgot to do a couple of times.

Also, try exporting using another delimiter (like tab) and see if that makes a difference.

Finally, Got it without duplicating, I tryed every format and finally CSV - Comma Delimited worked using excel.

Weird , I don't understand why that CSV would work and NOT the other formats?

Here is my main Index, not happy with the index page but just wanted to get it up and running .

Jeff;

Very Nice!

Looks like a little "justification" tweaking on your index page is all that you will need.
