okay made a template index file, After I generate pages with webmerge, everything works except that the images are showing that they do not exist (red X's) also I noticed that when I view source of html the links and images do not have a URL specified in it.

    Example:

Am I missing something. it only happens with some datafeeds. Any help would be appreciated. I'm been messing with it for over 24 hours and I"m still getting the same results.

Are those fields blank that represent the buy url and image url?

How about posting the template your using so we can see if it's in the code?

hmm it's in the Bettymills master feed, and audible top 20 the last 7 days. txt datefeed. Maybe I"m doing something wrong. using the wrong delimiter. Anyway those are the 2 I'm having trouble with. no problems with shareasale datafeeds though. Do you have to have Mysql access for webmerge?

For the Betty Mills feed there are 2 free scripts you can request, and they are worth it. You can customize to your own template of course. I only recommend the other available tools because of the enormous size of that particular feed.

I haven't looked at the Audible feed, but if you are getting other feeds to generate properly then I would check the feed for blanks in the database and make sure you are using the correct field names.

No, you do not need mysql access to use WebMerge, but you should have a spreadsheet or database to access the datafeeds themselves and set them up properly to use with WebMerge.

    Jason,

Does your code (and WM-Tags) look like this?

<a href="[WM-Field: Website_URL]"><img src="[WM-Field: IMAGE_URL]" alt="[WM-Field: TITLE]" border="0"></a>

This should produce a clickable image for the Betty Mills feed, with an "alt" tag.

I am almost finished with the new WebMerge Help files for affiliates, but it's not quite ready. It does conatian a section on preparing your feed, including the use of MS Excel. As soon as it is ready, I'll post it for everyone.

    Jason,

Look at Fred's code, that should work. Sounds like you are missing the image tag.

    You can also use: <a href="[wm-field: buy_url]" target="new">[WM-imagepath: image_url] - no alt tag here

Fred's how to guide absolutely rocks....

    Thank you Andy !

I moved 80% of my sites to a higher performance server a few weeks ago, and almost everything went well.

The email situation has been something I have been trying to resolve for two-weeks, with your post I think I have a handle on it.

I will send you a new email this afternoon, with a better address.

Tell you what Jason. Why don't you skip the [WM-Imagepath:] tag, and go with the standard HTML tag shown in my example above (and below)...

<img src="[WM-Field: IMAGE_URL]" border="0">

You can also insert the HTML "alt" tag if you like. I have the best luck using HTML to display the image, instead of using the WebMerge tag. If you put the "WM-Field" tag inside the HTML, that will insert the appropriate image URL.

    Give it a try.

What needs to be done with those feeds in MySQL? Or more specifically, what can we add to WebMerge to eliminate that step?

I was suggesting that there may have been blanks in some of the data. Almost all datafeeds require some pre-prep before you can use them with WebMerge or any other program. At the very least the BeFree feeds ALL need the affiliate id inserted, and many other feeds available outside the networks need the affiliate id inserted.

I hadn't looked at the Audible feed prior to my post above, it requires extra coding that can be added to the template. The categories field needs to be split manually, it is set up with a catname > subcat > subcat structure that can have a number of subcategories.

You can look at most feeds in a text editor, but for them to make sense it is easier to look at them in Excel or another spreadsheet program. Field names may need to be modified, I have had a problem with field names that had spaces and had to convert the spaces to underlines.

Also, sorting the datafeed prior to processing is recommended in Frank's tutorial and should be done to get the data in some sort of order for your index pages to make any sense. And in many feeds there are duplicate subcategory names and the names need to be changed to avoid overwriting previously created pages.

So, in short, there are a number of reasons to use a spreadsheet for a small feed (excel handles ~60,000 records) and Access for larger feeds.

If I can process the Betty Mills or Best Foriegn Parts feeds without opening, and making the pages not all show up in one humongous directory, I would be a very happy person indeed. As it is now, that isn't how it works. I have hundreds of pages in a single directory, but thousands in one directory bothers me. But that is being addressed in another thread, and I will wait to see the next tutorial that is released to see if there is a better way to accomplish subdirectory organization.

    And so it shall be.

I'm considering moving the database viewer with savable change commands into the next version and bumping the version number to v2.5 to reflect the significance of the build. This would also include greater flexibility for generated file names, making a very valuable free upgrade for current users.

Great, this would need to include combining fields though.

Good thought. I can add the ability to create new fields from the concatenated contents of any number of existing fields.
