Usually it takes under 1 minute to do a run, suddenly it's taking almost 1 hour?

I'm trying to rewrite for corrections but it's never taken this long! Any ideas?

    Thanks

Have you run out of disc space?

Open 'My Computer' and right click the 'C' drive, select 'properties' to see how much free space there is.

I agree. Sounds like low disk space.
Also, try rebooting your computer to clear memory.

Disk or Memory are first choices for the problem.

Also, is it a new data feed file? If so, then it may be some things in the data feed file. I would check the whole thing out by running with a old data feed file, if the process speeds up again, you know it's the file. If the process is still slow, then it is likely to be computer related.

    Hope this helps.

You might try writing the new pages to a different directory - that's worked for me in the past.

I used to run Win98, and it just doesn't understand when you try to write bunches of files...

I am writing to a different directory, I thought I'd try that. Still snails pace.
I'll try again in the morning, Thanks!

Something like this happened to me recently. I cancelled the run, checked the log, and found I had a problem in one of my templates. After I fixed it, everything went back to normal.

Hats off to the "Newbies", who are now WM problem solving "Experts"!

I'd be interested in knowing what type of problem you had in your templates that caused WM to slow down.

Well, my biggest problem with webmerge rigtht now is TAGS.

This whole past week has been trial and error with getting the tags the way I want.

I added too many on detail page:

    [WM-LinkIndexPrevious]Previous[/WM-LinkIndexPrevious][WM-LinkIndexNext]Next[/WM-LinkIndexNext

since I deleted that, it's back rocking.

I'm not a good one to read directions, I guess lol. In general, since talking to Stanley, the general program makes perfect sense, it just TAGS that are slowing me down.

Have you tried planning things on paper? If you haven't, why not try it?
Write down what you are trying to do in a logical order.
Planning on paper should be something that people try if they cannot do it on a computer screen

Yes, I do that, I just seem to be the type who has to see it on the screen before I totally understand it.

I guess that comes from being such a late starter with puters.

Nice job indeed. After thinking about it, that's how I have fixed some similar problems in the past too.

I cannot remember what was bad in the template (when I had the difficulty), I know it was not related to conditional tags (no loops) - it was something else. I'll try to remember what it was.

The same thing happened to me. What my problem specifically was, was that I had a bad IF statement. I copied this IF statement from one page to another using Dreamweaver. And Dreamweaver changed the [] marks to funny characters. Once I changed them back to [] my pages built at normal speed again.

Just saw this. If this is the tag you are using:

    [WM-LinkIndexPrevious]Previous[/WM-LinkIndexPrevious][WM-LinkIndexNext]Next[/WM-LinkIndexNext

Then you are missing the final ] on the end. Was that exactly how you had it? Using too many tags on the details page doesn't sound right to me. On my detail pages I have about 35-50 webmerge tags. Does yours have much more then that? Webmerge builds about 1200 pages for me in 2.2 minutes.

Well, I did it!! Got it all up properly and wonders of wonders, I UNDERSTAND IT!

Nope, that's not how I had it on there, and No, that wasn't the problem. Moving on to start another now!

Sorry I'm late in posting back. I'm glad your problem got solved.

I was wondering about the tag you deleted... you said it was on a detail page but it looks like one of the tags that only applies to index pages.

Does anyone know if that could be something that would hang it up?

I've come to the conclusion (right or wrong it may be), wrong tag either is ignored or will cause extra work for the program.
    I'll just keep experimenting lol.

Both are true, depending on the tag and where it is in the page.

One way to minimize errors with tags is to build them with the TagMaker tool (see the Tools menu).
