    I wonder if someone can help.
    I am working on a bargainclothing datafile and ran into a small problem For example
    category boys4-20 has subcategory sleepwear.
    boys4-7 has subcategory sleepwear
    So does the girls section have subcategory sleepwear.
    Right now, webmerge takes all the sleepwear and creates one sub page without differentiating between the different categories. IE ALL sleepwear is in one record.
    I must be missing a command in my code to separate this. HELP???

    You could rename each category in your spreadsheet. For example change sleepwear to boys 4-7 sleepwear.

    Thank you, I sort of was hoping I did not have to modify 1800 rows and was hoping there was a simpler way. I guess not?

    If you are using Excel, you could add a column, then combine the cat and sub-cat columns to make a third using the concatenate function.

    d1=concatenate(b1,c1)

    Astro1;

    There are two workarounds for this problem.

    1) The hard way is to add "/" to your datafeed so that each subcategory gets put into a subdirectory (one for boya and one for girls). This is pretty complicated but is described in my tutorial (http://www.creativenutsandbolts.com/webmerge/).

    2) The "easy way" is to combine the Category and Subcategory fields to create a new field (which you then rename to become "SubCategory". For example "boys4-7 sleepwear" and "girls4-7 sleepwear".

    You can do this easily within Excel. For example, if the Category and Subcategory fields are in columns A and B respectively, create a blank column "C" and, with your cursor in cell C2, enter this formula =(A2&" "&B2).

    Copy that formula down the entire feed and then relabel Column "C" Subcategory (and rename Column "B" "Subcategory Old." This makes the file names a bit messy, but it does the job.

    d1=concatenate(b1,c1) will also work (as noted by wyern). However, the other approach gives you a bit more flexibility to add spaces and/or punctuation between the two values, e.g. "girls4-7: sleepwear" is produced by =(A2&": "&B2).

    By the way, Richard, this is an issue that gets my vote for the next version of WebMerge, i.e., the ability to combine two fields and use the combination them in creating file names.

    Thank you Frank. and Wyvern. I was afraid of that.I guess I will combine the two fields.

    Question, There is an option in Webmerge "make new index page when value in this field changes" Any way to utilize that?

    No, not for the issue that you are working with.
