Hi all

I am having the problem with tables where Webmerge drops the HTML after the closing [/indexlabel] tags.

I have used the double closing table tags and it solved that problem but created another. Some of the tier 2 and 3 pages were formatted terrible while others were fine.

I have read through everything in this FourthWorld topic and it seems there is no resolution for this.

However I don't want to admit defeat. Does someone from fourthworld want to look at my templates and webmerge files? The feed I am using only has 300 of so products so it is easy to produce the whole database and see whats up.

I am really seing the power of webmerge and if I could overcome this it would be great.

Try using a triple closing table tag. It isn't pretty, but it actually worked for me once.

If you would like me to take a look at the templatss send me a private message, and I'll send you an email address where you can send the file (although "webmaster" at my website below will also reach me).

Have you noticed that when you add more closing table tags that the resulting file is almost impossible to edit?

Adding the extra tags gives me marginal result, the formatting is just acceptable.

No, I have not noticed that problem. I use FrontPage as my editor. Perhaps that makes a diffference.

I'm using FrontPage 2003 with reasonable results, just over 2000 pages and only minor errors, like when FP makes Fields into CAPITAL letters...

Any ideas why it does that ? But I must admit the tables seem OK when using FP.

I have not encountered that problem. You might try looking in "Tools" "Page Options" and try resetting to the defaults.

There are mixed reports about the closing table tags, with most of our customers able to use the cols attribute for the WM-Record tag without error.

The problem seems specific to a certain combination of tags, which I'm honing in on. If you experience this problem please drop me a note with the OS you're using and I can email a fresh build for you to test. Once this is pinned down I'll post the update for public consumption.

Dispite this table problem I love webmerge.

Once you get the hang of it there is so much you can do.

Spend a few days customizing the datafeed and bang you got a site.

One of only 5 products I have bought for my business that I haven't returned.

I too have noticed that if webmerge's output is to be in a multiple column table, sometimes it does not write the close table tag.

Therefore, sometimes I have to add "

right after the WM code on the template to ensure that it is contained inside of a table and does not mess up the look of the entire document.

Has this been resolved with a patch or any update for WM? I do not know how to update or patch my version of WM...

In spite of my many requests for examples of settings files and templates where this has occured, I've only received two thus far. Nonetheless they seem to have provided what I needed: a patch is in the works, to be posted this week before I leave for Malta for a week to present at a programming seminar in Valetta.

I noticed this too. Say, the template for the main index file has a TR:

quote:

Some text:

    [WM-RECORD cols=3][WM-IndexLabel: SuperCategory]

[WM-FIELD: SuperCategory]

[/WM-IndexLabel][/WM-Record]

The generated page includes a new
to accommodate the 3 columns and the last two lines above are orphaned in Dreamweaver MX - they get a yellow highlight. I can't remember for sure but there isn't a closing
tag or it overwrites the original one.

The table needs manual editing to leave the code within one large table. You also have to code for <colspan="x"> in the template before you generate, but I've had to hand-edit before uploading the final content.

Many changes have been made to WebMerge 2.4's table-generation code. The changes thus far have addressed some reported issues, but as noted earlier the causes of these issues can vary based on elements in the settings file and other tags in the templates.

For this reason I've noted both on the Download page where the Beta is and on the Contact Support page at my site to please report bugs in v2.4 via email and include these files:

    - Your WebMerge settings file
    - Any templates used
    - a portion of your source file (preferably <2MB)

With those in hand I can usually hone in an issue quickly, certainly in time for Beta 3 if you can send those within the next few days.

I haven't had any example files in my In Box on this one, so I'm just posting this reply as a tickler to help move things along.

Thus far I know of only one other bug in v2.4, so without examples of other issues this version will ship and any remaining table issues will have to be addressed in v2.5.

Thanks in advance for taking a moment to send those in. With those in hand it should be easy to resolve any issues you're encountering.

Table doesn't close - try Frank's tutorial settings
Hello, I just bought WebMerge and ran into a problem with the table (cols) code. Then I found this thread and saw you wanted a code example. Please refer to Frank Baertracks data and template files for a 4-tier site.

The subcategory template has this section of code:

    [WM-RECORD cols=4 width=800]
[WM-IMAGEPATH: THUMBNAIL_IMAGE raw]

[WM-FIELD: PRODUCT_NAME]
$[WM-FIELD: PRICE nolink]

    [/WM-RECORD]

...which produces this section of code (in the Disney.html file):

Baby Einstein Neighborhood Animals VHS with CD
$14.99

...no closing row or table (

) tags.
