    Hi all,
    I have a question.
I'm using Fred's tutorial for the three tier web merge settings.
Here's my problem -- whenever i create the pages using the two WM settings, using a CJ datafeed whereby ADVERTISERCATEGORY is the field for "category" - on my main index page, the fields just keep repeating.
For example: I might have five headings of,
Crystal and Glass - paperweights - and rather than lead to a page with several products (like I know there are), it just takes me to one product.
I might see, on the main index page, five or six headings that read, "Crystal and Glass - paperweights" - instead of just one leading to a category page of products listed.

    Anyone else experience this?
The only one that worked for me was Deckers.

Your help is greatly appreciated. I'm beyond frustrated.

    Pax,

    Claudia

Yes I have had this problem - many times. But...I'll be darned if I can remember what I've done to fix it. Let me give it some thought. Are you using Frontpage?

Perhaps you should try using FRANK's tutorial instead!

The problem is the way that your datafeed is sorted (or not sorted). In order for the indexing function to work you need to make sure that all of the "Crystal and Glass - paperweights" are grouped together in the datafeed so that they will appear as one link leading to a Category page displaying several items.

If you are using a program like Excel to manage your datafeed, you can use the sort function to sort by CATEGORY and SUBCATEGORY before exporting the datafeed for WM.

If you are trying to use the datafeed "as is" then try the sorting function on the "Sources" tab. For your first WM setting file you should sort by CATEGORY.

    I figured it out!!!!
It's in the sorting - you have to sort by category - that way everything is bunched together appropriately!
Thanks for your help - hope this helped you too.

    Claudia,

If it makes you feel any better, I made the same error and had to find the same fix as you.

Not sure where this question came from since I don't see it listed above.

I have this same problem, using demo version of webmerge and eastwood datafeed. I have tried your suggestions, and I get the same category numerous times. Sorted by category, then sub categories. Still going through the various tutorials, but just thought I would ask.
    ==================
Are you sorting as a one step process or as two successtive sorts?

I am not familiar with the Eastwood feed. Another possible cause might be if the subcategory fields are identical within different categories

    CATEGORY Subcategory
    MEN accessories
    WOMENS accessories

If that is the case you may need to combine Category and Subcategory into order to create unqiue subcategory field names.

    No problem.
    Good luck with Webmerge.
    Keep experimenting.
That's the key to mastering WM.
