I have been asked by quite a few affiliates, as well as some ABW members, to present publically our stance on Parasiteware, a.k.a. lots of other things bad.

For purposes of this post, I am going to use Haiko's well thought out definition of Parasiteware...i hope he doesn't mind...

ParasiteWare(TM) - is a program(s) or site(s) that specifically uses technology (bho's, browser plug-ins, auto homepage settings, pop ups or sliders or other means that become available) to retain or acquire new customers via contextual advertising on any site other than the credited affiliate's, advertiser's or merchant's site.

A reading of the post topic... http://abw.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&...1&m=4416069321 would be helpful to anyone not knowing what i am talking about...

Ok, so... in basic terms we are against it. I am not a legal guy, and neither myself nor my company will make any legal judgements on the makers of such software, that is left up to the courts and the laws of the lands. However, we do run our network...and don't need anything to be "defined" as legal or illegal in order to accept/reject affiliates...we get to decide which affiliates will participate.

Parasitic affiliates will not be allowed to participate in shareasale.com.

Its not much of a catchy slogan " Parasite-Free!!! " ... but it is important to affiliates, merchants, and networks alike... so thats that i suppose.

    Thanks,

    Brian,

As a SAS merchant I am very glad to see this public statement!

It is great to see a network take this step!

Kudos Brian for your stance on this..coming from both a merchant and affiliate. One question, though....will this be in the merchant terms of service or will we have to add this in. I'd like to get something more specific in there (and I think Haiko's definition is right on the money)
