    Interesting that they Mention:

Visitors will not see an affiliate link in your URL so it looks better as well as helps prevent them from just signing up themselves. Also, this will eliminate the problem of ad blockers and firewalls blocking CJ links.

So it seems like this Merchant Understands this issue and is doing something about it.. CJ your going to lose merchants if this Ad blocker issue isn't resolved soon.

    Message Body

    Dear Publisher,

We are very pleased with the time and effort you have put forth promoting our website through Commission Junction. This is why we have decided to contact you for this important news: NeptuneCigar.com is leaving Commission Junction to manage its own affiliate program, the NeptuneCigar.com Partner Program.

First, we would like to assure you that the commissions, payment method, cookie expiration and banners will remain the same. The great advantages to continue working with us in our new Partner Program are:

    - We now use DirectTrack, rated #1 affiliate software by independent magazine, to track the visitors you refer to our site, collect all the sales and traffic data and track how much your site earns.

    - As a partner, you will have access to an online reporting system that will provide you with detailed sales and traffic statistics for your site 24 hours a day. The DirectTrack software is very easy to use and no training is required.

    - Visitors will not see an affiliate link in your URL so it looks better as well as helps prevent them from just signing up themselves. Also, this will eliminate the problem of ad blockers and firewalls blocking CJ links.

    - You will have direct, personal communication with our company. We will be able to provide you a better service, respond to your questions more quickly and offer more flexibility. We are open to ideas, tactics and suggestions from our partners.

    - You will have fewer competitors as our Partner Program is smaller and we’ll work only with qualified partners. This allows you to be different and stand out and also increase sales.

To update your links, just follow these two EASY steps:

=> Sign up to our new program at the following URL: URL removed.
=> Once you have been approved, login to your account and pick up the HTML code in the “Campaign” section to update the Commission Junction links on your site. That’s all!

Our product catalog is not yet available online. After you sign up, please send us an email at xxxx to receive the updated code or an import .csv file including our entire catalog.

IMPORTANT: We will close our Commission Junction account by the end of May. Please update your links by May 30th, 2004 in order to avoid interruption in your service.

In-house affiliate programs create a closer relationship and make merchants value their affiliates even more. That’s why our new program uses the term “Partner” instead of “Affiliate” or “Publisher”. We hope to have you join us! Please do not hesitate to contact us for any questions or comments you may have.

    Sincerely,

    Luz Normand

I had occasion to correspond with them right after the announcement. I've never seen AMs respond so quickly as they did.

    Hi Herb and jasonco....

We have just recently become aware of the ad blocker problem as well as the parasite problem. We are looking forward to having a REAL and direct relationship with our affiliates as opposed to dealing through a third party. We are confident that our new partner program will be more beneficial for us and our partners than CJ.

I guess some merchants are finally seeing that CJ doesn't really have their best interests in mind. Recommending parasites to them is just the first insult.

We've known for a long time that CJ couldn't care less about its publishers, now it's becoming obvious they don't really care about the merchants, either. Unless the merchant is willing to blindly let CJ run their program for them.

CJ says it educates merchants on working with certain publishers, yet merchants say that isn't happening. CJ says the parasites are in compliance, yet as affiliates we know they aren't.

I see a lot of things getting ready to happen. It's about time.

    Luz:

I see Live Help appearing on your site. Can you confirm this is definitely not a threat to our commissions?

This has become meat for a lot of discussions lately.

    Hi Herb,

The Live Help that appears on our website is not the LivePerson pop-up thing. It is a tool that we have so that customers can ask questions about products and customer service. Cigar smokers like to have personal contact with their tobacconists, it is a very special product that we sell. Live Help is attended by me mostly, and of course there are no commissions involved.

Thank you for emailing me about this.

    Luz

Lucy, have you been having more success being away from CJ? What percentage of CJ affiliates came to your in-house program?
To Neptune Affiliate's who joined the in-house program, is it better than going through CJ? Just curious, thanks very much, and good luck.

I would be interested in hearing any feedback from affiliates on this as well.

Herb is right. The linking structure is not the same. In general, it's just a little more cumbersome to work with the program.
