I am going to start a new affiliate program in the next week or two. I need to have my designer start working on banner ads and I wanted to ask you all for opinions on them. Should I include my url in the banner ad or is it better just to have a good ad without any url?

    Thanks!

Personally I don't think you NEVER need a url or even sometimes a site name, but make it exciting, attractive and say something that will draw a visitor to it instead of closing their eyes and not even seeing it on my page.

Banner ads need to be a call to action. No intriguing message, no action.

That is good advice I think, thanks. Do you (or anyone) have any examples of what they would call "great" banners?

I would avoid it, unless it is a really outstanding URL, like "Yahoo.Com" (of course that's not it).

Additionally, as soon as the visitor hovers his mouse over the ad, he'll see some other URL in his browser, and may have second thoughts about clicking.

Make your brand strong by focusing on your products or slogan.

    IMHO.

I normally avoid using animated banners whenever possible, but I think the UrbanScooters banners are brilliant, the action being what the product is all about.
