    Have tried emailing both CJ and Brian Tracy, but no joy. There is a neat link for the Brian Tracy affiliate program which adds a 'Quotation of the Day' to affiliate's sites. We have given it hundreds of thousands of exposures (without a sale), but because of the way the link is generated, I am becoming sceptical about whether it tracks back to the affiliate.

    Here's the code provided:

    <!----------------- Brian Tracy QUOTATION OF THE DAY -------------->
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="Javascript">
    if (navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer" && parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4){
    document.write('<IFRAME MARGINHEIGHT=0 MARGINWIDTH=0 FRAMEBORDER=0 FRAMESPACING=0 BORDER=1 SCROLLING=No WIDTH=480 HEIGHT=110 SRC="http://www.briantracy.com/promo/qotd/qotd.asp?AID=9113070&PID=1383621"></IFRAME>');
    }
    </SCRIPT><img src="http://www.************/gk115y7B-53PRTYTWSRPZRRTQXQ" width="1" height="1" border="0"<BR>
    <!----------------- Brian Tracy QUOTATION OF THE DAY -------------->

    You can see it in action here. Note that the link does not feature any kind of affiliate code: goes straight to http://www.briantracy.com/

    Anybody know if this would track or not? Don't want to send our visitors to a commercial site if we're not going to earn a cent.

    Thank you - and Happy New Year to everyone

    It doesn't look like it tracks to me. You might want to report it to CJ through AAQ.

    A CJ tracking cookie is not being created on this link which should be the case for a non batch merchant with an 120 day cookie duration.

    You've been taken, now you should giveth .

    That's not an affiliate tracking cookie. It's probably just a session tracking cookie.

    I'm sure it wasn't inentional. Merchants that aren't technically adept frequently mess up with these types of links.

    Thank you VERY much for checking the cookies and the feedback! People here are so friendly

    We don't know if it was intential or not. In my seven years of affiliate marketing, I've witnessed numerous examples of merchants deliberately not taking care to ensure all links track properly or taking their time to fix them.

    I emailed the company in question about five times in the last year about this link.

    Funny how these merchants always have resources to ensure their office staff get paid their $100,000 salaries on time, but not to ensure all affiliate links are tracking.

    Is it not the same technique Amazon uses when you link to its products?...

    Pay attention in this code:
    <IFRAME MARGINHEIGHT=0 MARGINWIDTH=0 FRAMEBORDER=0 FRAMESPACING=0 BORDER=1 SCROLLING=No WIDTH=480 HEIGHT=110 SRC="http://www.briantracy.com/promo/qotd/qotd.asp?AID=9113070&PID=1383621">

    When you're working with affiliate links through IFRAMES like this, there are three possibilities. Two of these have problems.

    1) If displaying the IFRAME sets the affiliate cookie, you get a click and a tracking cookie every time the frame is VIEWED. This is obviously not desirable.

    2) If the IFRAME doesn't set an affiliate cookie and doesn't dynamically insert affiliate code into the links inside it, no affiliate cookie ever gets created. That's what's happening here.

    3) What SHOULD happen is that the IFRAME dynamically inserts the affiliate code into the links inside it. An affiliate cookie doesn't get set when viewed, only when clicked.

    In this case, the qotd.asp page should extract the AID and PID from the URL and link to http://www.qksrv.net/click-1383621-9113070 (or whatever AID and PID it finds) instead of linking to http://www.briantracy.com/.
