Hi, Just wondering if I could get some feedback on this. Since I am building a homepage community I need to offer free email. (I already tried everyone.net but don't want to share my adspace with them) Anyone have another idea? Maybe a custom cgi script will do it? Any experience on the subject?

    Thanks in advance

    Breeze,

Big Mail box also offers private label mail (don't know much about them of their program), and community builder (part of about) does also, as a part of their unbranded and co-op programs.

But, before you look into scripts, I would suggest that you figure out how many users would be using the service and the storage allotment and bandwidth requirements and get with your hosting company to see what it would cost (hosting wise) to offer a "reliable" service. I'd say this figure could start at $150 a mo for about 100 users and 10 mb per. Scripts range from $300 to ????.

I'd suggest going with a solution provider, they have the infrastructure in place and for you to build it up will just be way to expensive.

We offer a mail hosting service if you are interested. Currently we take all banner space, but that is just because most of the sites we host have no idea about banners etc.

We have been doing it for over 3.5 years and have over 45,000 users.

Doing it your own would be tough. The software we use once you add in all the extras was over $3000 with a yearly recurring of $400 and then you need a beefy machine.

We could work something out for showing ads other than our own. The nice thing about our service is you can customize the look, integrate it into your site, control the text that goes out on each email, and your users can access it through pop3.

Our info is located here: http://www.evilemail.com/webmasters.shtml

By the way, you can set it up so your users never see the evilemail name, it is just the niche where we get most of our users/customers.

I use BigMailBox.com for my site. Works well, easy to set up.

There are ads (you get a percentage of the ad space to serve your own ads) but there is also an ad free paid version.

Try it out if you want...I set up a test account.

Go to ParentsWorld.com and use the sign in box on the left to access the email.
