I don't know how to do this but am sure it can be done. Can anyone help? Here is the deal:

I have a text file with 3,500 lines. On each line there is a name followed by (2 sites)

Like this

john doe (3 sites)
mary jane (2 sites)
joe blow (1 site)

All I need is the names.

It is a notepad file.

Any clue of where to find a script to do this or am I doomed to edit each line by click / backspace?

If by 'site' you mean a web address, then anything that can strip html tags from text in a html file.

For this I use a program called arachnophila. Its 'careware' - if you want to use it you have to agree to not be a miserable git. Unless this restriction would cause you undue misery. Then its freeware.

I jest not!

Or you could send me the file/post it where I can find it, and I'll do it for you.

Theres a lot of mischief a person can get up to with a program like that

I should say thanks to you too - there was something you said about the importance of expanding profitable stuff as fast as you can. Sounds obvious if you know it, but you have probably doubled februarys income, seeing as how I didn't.

Amazing what people get paid to not teach you during *two years* A level economics, isn't it?

Happy Christmas, Breeze!

I would have simply imported it into excel, selected the name column I wanted, and then copy & paste it into a new text file..
