you can download this program to check your sys (and also to clean it).

That page is in German, but the prog is in English. Just click on "Downloadserver 1 (2 or3)".

I think the Realplay is indeed Realplayer. I've got the player, and I've got a Realplay as well. I've found that a lot of programs will actually close with ctrl-alt-del if you try enough...sometimes it just takes insisting a few times.

I'm running MSN Internet Access with IE5.5, and haven't installed AOL so it makes sense that it's actually Realplayer (although I can't rock-solid GUARANTEE it...)

Hopefully Quiet's program that he linked to will work for you! Realplayer's not worth the time of day anyway. It's RealJUKEBOX that's the valuable one, IMO... too bad the latest version takes $$$. It looks like I'll have the old version forever (I'm too cheap to replace free with paid)

psychomantis,
Go into your start menu and click on run. Then type 'msconfig' without the quotes. When the box pops up, select the Startup Tab (should be the last one). All those checked boxes are what are starting up with each boot. Deselect the one you want to quit running (you will probably have to reboot). There is no reason to have realplayer running in the background. It is an application that will open anyway when you click on a .ra or .ram link, so it's constant running only slows your stuff down. Also, let me know if you see gator in there somewhere

I bet only 1 in every 10,000 Windows users know about MSCONFIG or what a switch is.

People, they don't want you to have a computer, they want you to have a TV!

GREAT post tom<IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif> (no gator, comet cursor spyware though but thats bundled with realplayer)

BTW you can stop realplayer by running it and finding "close startcenter" under the first tab, but before you do click all the other tabs and opt out of all those newsletters that you didnt know you where subscribed to

Workerbee...Not sure what those are...sometimes if you search around in 'My Computer' you can make a better determination what it is...Actually, (if memory serves me correctly) you only need the PowerProfile and the SystemTray(again, I think) for your computer to Run...The rest is just add-ons like your anti-virus etc. Most of it you want and need, but your computer will run without it.

I have a question that I hope someone here can answer. What is devldr32.exe? I'm running windows XP and I see three of these processes running all the time. When I shut the computer down (rarely) I always have to manually end Devldr otherwise the computer would never shut down.

Also, in msconfig I have a program that is no longer installed still set in the start up tab, is it possible to remove the entry completely, rather than just unchecking it?

Thanks,
Brian
