Every time I try to save an image from a web page, Windows will only let me save it as a bitmap. What do I need to do to be able to save images as they really are (jpegs and gifs).

    Thanks in advance!

We had that problem on one of our computers some time ago.

We deleted cache, cookies and history, restarted, and it worked again.

The problem came back a couple of times, but were always gone for some time after cleaning the cache etc.

The problem is gone now. I don't have the slightest idea how. I guess it's a Windows Update at some point. Currently we run IE 6.0.2600 and haven't had that problem for a long time.

I haven't had that problem either since upgrading to IE 6.0. I never could figure out what made the problem come and go.

Funny, I have the similar problem and it started when I upgraded to IE6. I go to Netscape to save images now. About the only thing Netscape is good for these days ...

I also have IE 6 and I think I also had the problem before I "upgraded" to IE 6.

OveB - I tried your suggestion but it didn't work. Thanks anyway.

Does anyone else know a solution without having to start up Netscape just to download a pic?

Try refreshing the page you're viewing. I seemed to have had that problem with a page that had loaded for some time before I went to save the pic. When I refreshed, I was usually able to save as the real file type.

    HTH.

added: Or the old PITA method, search your recent temporary internet files on your hd and save it from there.
