Is there an easy way for me to change the text in all the html pages on my web site? I am making anohter site and want to use pages from one of my best sites. Is there an easy way for me to do a search and replace (such as keywords, title, etc) without having to edit each page individually? Is there software out there that can do this (hopefully free or at low cost)?

Thanks!

If using Homesite, just do an search - advanced replace.
I made a mistake on a script that produced several thousand static pages from a database. With my slow system I didn't want to run the whole script again as it took so much time. Using Homesite, and the advanced replace, I specified the folder, highlighted the text to change, pasted the correct text and told it to get busy.
Worked like a charm in a couple of minutes.

BTW I believe Homesite still offers a 30 day free trial if you don't feel like paying for it.
After it saved my butt like that, I didn't mind though.

I don't know if it has all the features you listed, but with a little creativity it is at least a start.

Let no one outwork me today.

Try BK ReplaceEM, http://www.orbit.org/replace/

It works great, the interface takes a little to get used to, but the program works great.

You can do the same thing with Dreamweaver. It saved my butt a few times

Thanks for all the suggestions. I may try them all.

I use FrontPage for most of my sites. Does anyone know if any of these programs would cause me any problems with FrontPage?

FrontPage has a find feature. Go [ctrl-h] you should see that you have the choice of current page or all pages. If you click "All Pages", I believe that it would recurse through the directory.

As I recall, the program makes a list of pages with the found text, then gives you the choice of auto replacing or it will open and close the files as you review the changes manually. It's been a few months since I did this.

BTW: I've mixed and matched different editors in different environments. The programs often snap at eachother and try to change code, but I've been successful...for the most part.

I thought the above Frontpage solution would work, but when I tried it, it failed. It will work to change text on the page you are working on, but when you click All Pages, the Replace and Replace All buttons become inactive.

I may indeed be doing something incorrect, but in any case, thanks for the suggestions.

I'm with Gordon. DW's "entire local site" or "folder" find-and-replace have saved me TONS of w*rk (and helped with a few butt saves too)!

It's also great for changing out those darned "expired links" that happen when merchant's can't make up their mind as to which banners to use.

7-days, they have a 30-day trial so you don't have to fork over the big bucks just for a couple of minor jobs...

Leader,

Thanks. I've got 20 new sites I'm working on, using some pages from some of my other sites, and the 30 day trial should work perfect for this. Thanks, also, to the rest of you for your suggestions.

7-days.. back on frontpage, ctrl-h should work fine with replace all, I use it all the time.. if you've got an old version maybe upgrade to 2002.. seems to have lost some of the bugs from 2002

Yes, I've using FP 2000, which may explain why it is not working for me. Thanks.

I went to download Homesite when I realized it was a Dreamweaver product. Although I never use it, I own Dreamweaver. Guess what? Just found out it does exactly what I was looking for. Easily converted text for me in an entire folder and I see no conflicts with FrontPage so far.
