I have about 250 files named .htm and I need them to be .shtml. Is there an easy way that doesn't require me to learn much to rename them?

If they are all in the same directory, and if you are changing all the .htm files in that directory, then you can go out to a dos prompt. change to the directory your files are in with

    cd\directory_name

    Then type in

    ren *.htm *.shtml

That will rename ALL .htm files in that directory to .shtml
