Hi

I have run into a problem I just can't figure out.

I created a new branch of my site that is contained in a sub folder. I can't get the images to load. Just the dreaded "X" is all that appears.

Now when I test the pages on my test server they work fine. So I veiw source on the test server page and the host server page and the code is identical.

I tried copying the image uRL into my browser and the image loads fine.

Finally I loaded a page from another branch of this site into the subfolder that contains the pages in question. The images load fine.

Soooo..... I am completely stumped.

Anyone have any suggestion?

[Assuming you are using a Windows PC]

Try right-clicking on the image and selecting 'properties' - you should see the exact path to where the page thinks the images are.

You can also copy the path and paste into your browser to confirm. If you are using relative paths (../), you may want to change to absolute.

Hi

I am using a window PC and use absolute paths to these images (they are served by the merchant)

I tried the properties and took that path and pasted it into my browser. Image loaded fine.

completely stumped???

Do you have N*rton running or other ad blocking? Does the url to the images on the merchant site contain a reference to either a network location that is blocked or a subdirectory that is named with one of the blocked terms?

That is something I haven't considered.

My brother lives in my basement and is a networking specialist. He is always tweeking with the lacal network at home. He may have implemented something that is affecting this.

Funny how only a certian bunch of pages are affected. The section of the site in question are all from the same merchant. The image URL is domain/images/product-name. No reference to any affiliate network. They are an indie merchant and are in the 5 start club.

What really confuses me is that the URL works on its own. I loaded the page to another domain and the page loads fine.

Do you think it's possible that the merchant may have turned off hot linking of the images?

Well I am starting to think that I can't serve images from this merchant. I have loaded a test page into several other folders on this domain, including the root folder.

I included an image being served from my domain and the merchants. The images I serve work the merchants don't. This is with all the folders in the root folder.

I have loaded this test page onto a different domain and the image I serve works, the merchant doesn't.

If I open this test page on my PC with IE both images work, being served from the two domains.

Just to make things more baffling. This section is built from a datafeed consisting of 2 merchants sharing a feed. The images are served from two different domains.

Have you tested that clicks to the merchant work correctly?

The problem HAS to be on your local network as I can see the original images here.

To summarize:

1 Images can be seen from other PCs

Problem is not with merchant serving images generally

2 Images can be loaded locally

Problem is not image
type or size

3 Images cannot be loaded from page on any domain / directory you've set up.

Problem is not specific to domain name / directory

Another thing to check - can you see the images if you look on the merchants site directly?

Also what happens if you use an IP address instead of a domain name?

It really sounds as though your firewall or network settings are somehow filtering out access to these images.

"The problem HAS to be on your local network as I can see the original images here."

I was thinking that until my brother logged into 2 different servers. His work one and a local business he is currently working on. Both failed to serve the image.

The affiliate manager is aware that I am having problems so perhaps she can think of a solution.
