So I have re-designed a major project of mine and now I have to redirect all the old pages to the new ones.
I plan on doing this via the .htaccess page and placing it at the root level of my site.
I have started typing out the pages that need redirecting (there are a lot) when I though of the question below.
I have been following the instructions from this site about how to redirect via a .htacess page.
There is some other goodies on that site worthy of the time to read.
I would like to thank SandraR for the post here:
that enlightened me to the world of .htacess. I knew it was there and did "cool stuff" but I haven't had it spelled out so clear, as that site does.
Do I take down the old pages when I put this new .htacess file up?
I hope not....If I do I'm sure to lose the links I have gotten over the years.
Can I leave the pages there and still use the .htacess page with the redirects to the new pages and directories?
Also anybody know if the redirect is instant or does it try and load the old page first, kinda like a <meta> refresh/redirect.
Looking for a painless transition
