Your site says 8-12 sales average per hundred click thrus. I'm over 350 clicks and not a sale in site. I haven't done anything fancy at all but normally I don't have to and still make good sales. At least 2 per hundred click thrus.

Victor you know my site would you mind taking a look and giving any advice I'd like us both to make some money.

This month my Betty Mills products only site has had over 6000 clicks (accorrding to bettys stats) with only 2 sales.

I just put up the site last month and average around 50 unique visitors a day or about 1500 for this month. I would expect 300 to 500 click throughs or more from these visitors but where did the 6000 clicks come from?

Anyway like Heyder said is there any advice you could give us, as I am hoping for a better conversion rate also.

    Yeah, the CR sux.

Something is definitely wrong with this picture since other products in various categories sell well off the same type of pages.

Are you sure they are all real clicks? I had 10000 new clicks overnight so I'm guessing that some bots might follow them and inflate the real number..

    Just a possibilty,
    Javi

Ok, here is the deal. Our conversion rate is excellent.

What you are seeing are clicks coming in from search engines.

Heyder, in your case, googlebot, Altavista and other spiders have generated 389 of the 392 clicks you are showing in your account. Only 3 clicks have come in through valid user searches- not enough to generate sales for you yet.

We have one particular affiliate this month showing over 17,000 clicks, of which about 1,700 are true user clicks and the rest are search engines passing through. In this particular case, this one affiliate had 32 sales this month on 1,700 true user clicks, about a 1.9% conversion (not our best converting affiliate, but not too bad either)

Glaikit, if you send me your Betty username I can provide the same data to you. Once you strip out the search engine traffic, you can then calculate true conversion. I admit, I have some work to do as to how to prevent these clicks from showing up in the numbers.

Heyder- The way to test this in your particular case to enter the IP addresses from your log (I've included below), and put them into the below link (any of you can do this):

    http://centralops.net/co/DomainDossier.vbs.asp

You will see that they are all spider clicks and not user clicks.

I can tell you that once your site gets spidered you will kick major booty. We are only online now with our datafeed for about 2 months and we are doing many tens of thousands of affiliate sales in a *very* short time.

Most of what I hear is all good news from our affiliate base. If you share a different opinion or have other questions please let me know!

I know googlebot obeys Meta ROBOTS tags. So maybe on these pages something like this might work?

    <pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">&lt;META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="index, nofollow"&gt;</pre>

Index the page and no follow my links. Might help keep the stats straight.

    Buddha,

Thanks for the suggestion. Am I correct in thinking that this meta tag would be on our affiliates websites, right?

Well you should be able to convert 3 visits into a sale.

Thanks Victor I appreaciate you looking into it for me and I'm especially glad to know I'm not some sort of anti-conversion freakazoid.

Yes they would be on the affiliate's website. They have limits though, if there's even one link on the page you want the spider to follow then it's a problem. You either have to create an index page (which would list all your product pages) or not use the tage.

I don't think many affiliates are going to code this on their sites!

META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="index, nofollow" is not a solution, as we all want our pages to be indexed by the search engines.
What do Linkshare, Shareasale et... and others do so bot clicks do not show up? somebody here must know.
    Buddha nice try

For me, about 95% of my spider traffic so far has been from picsearch.com -- both spider1.picsearch.com and sp5.picsearch.com. So I *know* where all my spurious clicks are coming from.

Since I have no images worth indexing on my pages I just blocked the whole picsearch domain.

To catch all their likely spider variants, in my .htaccess I added this line to my list of blocked sites:

    deny from .picsearch.com

I'll know when I check tomorrow how well this worked.

Now, if only I could get Googlebot, AltaVista, and the rest to come by...that's a problem I'd *like* having.

hehe yeah until googlebot crashes your server. I was nearly going to block them a while back with thousands of crawls non stop all pulling up mysql requests. I ended up finding some sloppy scripting to clean up and make it better and survived but it was very bad to say the least.
