New to the board. This is my first post. Anyone had a sale for Ashford.com since their platform change?

Hello Santa Barbara Guy and welcome. Yes, I've had a number of sales since the changeover. However, it took me a while to see that the SKUs had been changed. I'm still in the process of updating my links.

Contrary to the experience of others, I frequently seem to have excellent results with merchants that others find dissappointing. That's been my experience with Ashford heretofore.

I'm not nearly as impressed with their program since the acquisition by Global Sports. I felt that their previous affiliate manager was very helpful and responsive to affiliates. I'm not even sure they have an affiliate manager at present.

I feel that its a wait and see proposition now, and I may soon decide to switch some of my links to other merchants while I assess what direction the Ashford program is taking. I'm not upbeat about it at this time.

GO60Guy, I too have success with their program. Actually, they are my best BeFree merchant. Their former Affiliate Manager who was a former Santa Barbara resident was very helpful. I wrote them about my no sale after platform change concern and they replied with a link to their BeFree Q&A page. I like their products and will wait to see what happens after the Father's Day Holiday which in the past was a good holiday for Ashford products, before pulling some of their links.

I will say that last month was the most dissappointing I've had in well over a year with Ashford. I'm not sure whether its because of the wholesale changeover to different links about which I was uninformed (bearing in mind that I'm one of their top affiliates), or some other phenomenon. Of course, I won't continue with them in a big way if things don't recover.

Waiting out Fathers Day may well be the true test. Hopefully, Global Sports is not looking to dismantle what the previous affiliate manager was able to build.

UNtil you see posts here from Global Sports who operate Ashford, Fogdog, Sports Authority and other merchant affiliate programs as a ecatalog aggregrator you won't see conversions. They do not want to prove to affiliates they track sales when their majoe efforts are with the parasites.

Mike: In the case of Ashford, how is Global Sports acting as a catalog aggregator? My understanding is that Ashford carries its own inventory. Also, don't get me wrong, I am seeing conversions, Just not at the same level I've enjoyed in the past.

Global Sports operates the e-catalog/cart for all their merchants. That way they can feed to parasites -e-mail list brokers and record their cut before a network get the batch file sales report. I'm sure they'd not get a chance to count the money in a Vegas Casino either.

Mike, all Ashford links now redirect to their home page. Tracking is definitely turned-off. I wrote them twice and received an autoresponder to go to their BeFree Q&A page. I will start pulling their links after this post. Something is wrong with Global Sports management of Ashford.

You're right. I'm going to start pulling mine today. They owe me a ton of money. Hope they'll pay. Thanks Santa Barbara Guy for the heads up.

Okay - Here's what Ashford now says in their BeFree blurb:
    quote:
Checks are on the way!! Due to a glitch that occured during the crossover to the new systems, checks were inadvertently held up. As of today (6/6/02) the March and April Checks have been approved and should be heading out shortly. Also, we are aware of the broken images/links issues that have been hanging around. They are being worked on and we will post the progress of the repair work here as soon as anything changes. We apologize for the inconvenieces that might have been caused by the cross over, but we do believe these bumps will eventually lead to the best Ashford site ever. Thanks and we'll be in touch soon.

I've changed over some links, but am holding off now until I see how this thing shakes out.

Go60Guy, thanks for the update. I have removed some Ashford links. I will give them a few days before pulling all of their links - that will be a lot of work because we feature many of their products.

Yeah - I'm holding off because there's at least a couple of days work for me to complete a switch.

I also do a lot of business with Ashford and ever since this "changeover" to a new tech platform, sales have been abysmal.

I've tried to contact their new affiliate manager, Michael Tabasso, with no luck. Links are changed as of today until they get their act together.

It's too bad. They were always a good merchant for me.

There is a story about Ashford that many of you probably don't know but from the shopping boards...it was legendary.

In a capsule what happened 2 years ago Christmas was a MESS with them and many many shoppers won't even go to the web site anymore. They had offered a $100 off coupon to begin with and no minimum. That may or may not have been a computer glitch or a coding error but it was there in plain site with no conditions listed. People placed orders all over the area (some for cousins in Slobovia I think) and morally right or wrong, they got slammed with up to 20 orders a household.

They SHOULD have caught it early AND people SHOULD have realized this was an error but as usual, they took advantage of a bad situation. Ashford, accepted the orders and the CHARGED everybody with no warning, sometimes as much as 3X on the CC for the full price. When CS was called, it was not unusual for a person to be on hold 45-60 minutes and email was ignored.

It took months to straighten out everything and most of the women involved shudder to hear the name Ashford. Depending on your site and your targeted traffic, that may be some of the problem here.

    edit for a PS

They had CC numbers because shipping was not included with the coupon and some people used their debit card number which threw them into the red with bank accounts and available money.

Notice how BeFree moderator ignors these pin pointed problem accounts. Global has some other merchants who all have problems. Ashford showes a few sales for me 3 years ago for some months. Then zilch ever since. My theory is to try and match impression/clicks to sales revenue. No sales activity over many months and I ignor the merchant and sure don't get sucked into their seasonal promotions after ZERO sales on major Holidays the past 2 years. The on-off reporting switch during peak sales periods works very well.

Similar merchants like Martha Stewart -Pennys -Service Merchandise -Fingerhut all considered affiliate traffic as a FREEBEE.

Again Mike I must respectfully disagree with you. In all probability whatever method you've used to market Ashford simply didn't work.

The method I employ has worked beautifully until recently with sales & shipments (some quite large) almost daily. Its just lately that things seem to have broken down with fewer and smaller sales. I know its not anything about my method. The cause has to lie with the advent of the Global Sports acquisition. Their links are working again, so we'll see if things improve.

Well, its really sad. Their program has really deteriorated. I've heard, but not confirmed that Ashford has eliminated return days. If this is not true, could someone please enlighten us.

Also, if you go to their FAQs at BeFree, they leave blank the merchant answer as to how often affiliates are paid.

Sad, because, this was an excellent program run by a heads up affiliate manager.

    I feel really let down.

Ashford never had any return day cookies from day one 2 1/2 years ago. I attempted to use product links to overcome this but those links ended up on 404 errors or stoccckout pages. Jump over to Linksahre and pick up OverStock.com ..majority of Ashford products are carried at 50% off their prices.

No. they had a 45 day cookie. I followed Ashford very closely from the time I signed up with them. Its all changed with the advent of Global Sports.

Yeah, you have to stay on top of the inventory doing targeted pages with Ashford. With high ticket items its worth the effort.

Here's the latest re March & April payments from the Ashford BeFree interface:
    quote:
Update (6/19/02):BeFree has received the payment and should be sending out checks for March and April payments. Most likely this will be early July. The following payments should continue as regularly scheduled. We again apologize for the inconvenience.

Can't wait. They owe me a ton of money.

I can't wait for the checks. At this point I do not believe anything they say. I sent them an email asking what their new return days is and have not received any reply. This used to be an excellent program where sales of $2000.00 or more where common and the commissions were great on these high ticket items. But things have come to a screeching halt for us. Since we created many custom pages for them that generate daily traffic from search engines, we have found it difficult replacing many of their links. Does anyone know a merchant that sells Isabella Fiore handbags?
