    What a ripoff!

gap.com's automatically updated affiliate links are advertising "Get 10% off in gap stores".

The user clicks the affiliate link and is directed to print out a coupon to use in gap stores. There is no commission involved in gap store purchases.

They are just using us for free advertising and branding.

Go figure. This strategy is almost as good as their horrible cookie duration to leave affiliates with as few sales as possible.

If you ask me their strategy is what has the biggest Gap!

Wish they'd just go ahead and decalre bankrupt and end the pretense of being affiliate friendly. They'd then be forced to have a liquidation sale and might address conversion ratios. Have you tried some product links to get around the Zero cookie days??

Thats a little sneaky, Radio Shack has those kinda of links too. With gap i just use the coupon codes they send in the email.

No product links yet, it doesn't seem like much at all works for them. If you've had successes do share.

They won't even approve my site because we feature discounts and it would tarnish their wonderful reputation.

Wake up call for all affiliates. Brick-n-Mortar merchants only use affiliates for branding and advertising. None will convert worth a hoot as they are all clued into diversion tactics by their professional affiliate management companies.
