Questions for you seniors here, I found this:

    http://www.callihan.com/webbooks/promo.htm

Is any of this valid for promoting a website?

Is it considered to be too basic/juvenile/"beneath you"? If so, that's fine because I've seen a few posts here about where do I get started, and was just wondering if this would be a good link to mention to those folks since it's the basic stuff that tends to get written off as "everybody knows that".

Anything that offers insight is valuable information. However, the page was last modified on February 9, 2000. A lot has changed since then, but a lot has stayed the same.

On the subject of website promotion, I think that http://www.selfpromotion.com offers a lot more valuable and up-to-date information.

Learn the rules, then break some.

It's brief, but to the point. More details can be added to reflect present-day realities of the Internet, but can serve as a good introduction to promoting.

One tip. Start writing articles and submit to various ezines. In the end of your article provide a link to your site and a little information about yourself (signature file). It is a free exposure for your web site when your article is published.
