A quick question about Tax Returns - if you are registered as self employed but earning below your personal allowance, do you still have to fill out a tax return?

Yeah, don't mess with the Inland Revenue. They will find you eventually.

On a side note, when I paid my tax last year the payment (made via online banking) went to my credit card company instead of to the Inland Revenue and I got a hefty fine for late payment as I did not discover the error until it was too late - ouch! I never figured out if it was the banks mistake or mine, but I did notice that the bank changed its online payments so you get a confirmation page screen rather than just going back to your account.

you should submit a return, but i wouldnt bother if it's just a few quid
if you start earning more then see a (cheap) accountant

Here's another UK Tax question.

I'm in full-time employment (boring ) and am paying Tax automatically through my pay-cheque.

I'm also earning about 10% of my monthly income through a 'hobby' affiliate site. Do I need to declare this relatively small amount?

This might be a stupid question, but I'm only young and know little of the big bad tax world yet.
