I'm planning on opening a UK bank account with Barclays. How do I setup DD at CJ? Does this go with the same interface as you setup with US bank info? How long before you see the deposit show up in your bank accounts?

TIA, and is Barclays a good bank?

Set it up through the account screen, you'll need the account number and sorting code (e.g. 12-34-56) to hand.

Last month the DD came in on the 27th.

    Barclays is pretty good, yes.

It often shows up on the 24th in my Abbey National Account. Barclays are fine but the Buiding Societies like Nationwide and ex-BS like Abbey National tend to pay you interest rather than the other way round

How does it work with UK sites and CJ? CJ does not give you the option to include your VAT number. Does this mean that the affiliate does not have to charge CJ any VAT because CJ is a foreign company to the UK and the services that the affiliate provides are export services??

    Thks!

It's commission, i.e. income which is taxed in the normal way through Income Tax or Corporation Tax. CJ aren't actually buying anything from you, but they are paying you for work done.

    I think.

quote:
CJ aren't actually buying anything from you

That’s true, but you as an affiliated corporation are rendering a service. The tax on income is a given. What I was wondering about was whether the UK company should charge CJ VAT over and above the earned commission? Of course CJ as a US company would think that the affiliate has gone crazy if they receive an invoice for VAT on earned commission and would probably not pay it Just wondering what would be the legal thing to do with respect to UK law.

I've wondered the same myself Marcelle, but being below the VAT threshold I don't have to worry about it yet.

There is probably something on the HM Customs and Excise web site if you have time to wade through it all. Let us know if you find a definite answer!
