I am very confused, do i need to get a tin thing?? my hosting company is in the usa, so i am assuming so,

Non U.S. Business (No U.S. Business Presence)

A United States (U.S.) business presence involves having employees or equipment in the U.S. that are involved in any way with revenue earned through the AdSense program. This includes, but is not limited to, having a web server or hosting service in the U.S., or having employees in the U.S. who are involved in either:

setting up a web server, hosting service, or website
    developing content for your website
marketing to create a user base for your site
    telephone support for your site
    buying products for your site
    maintaining your site
If you do not have a U.S. business presence, you will be asked to agree to a statement to that effect. No tax forms are required in this instance.

    what has everyone else done??
    Thanks

Contact Google Adsense and ask them.
If you are in the UK, why do you use a US based hosting company?

If I am not mistaken, because you opt to use a US host provider you are liable for a tax ID record. Check with Google rep to be certain though.

Nope. Google thinks you are liable, but they're wrong (so far).

If you do not own the equipment, and the hosting provider is not your employee, then you do not need a US tax ID.

You don't have a physical office or staff in the US, so you don't have a US presence.

Err incidentally I'd always choose a hosting provider within driving distance Tamalyn.. but don't you live on a bit of land sticking out into the Irish Sea or something

I always use US web hosting too. Far better value for money.

    Really?

I have never found a US host that provides the stability or features of the European host I use (1&1) for a similar cost.

Yes, really. They're cheaper, mainly because of getting more bandwidth for the money. I wouldn't use one and one because I would have to register a domain name with them or transfer a domain to them and I don't "do" hosting and domains in the same place. I made that mistake once - never again! I buy the domains separately, that way I have control over the domain and can point it to new hosting if needed.

Yes, I now have a dedicated server in the US with 500 Gig traffic.

In my country I have a virtual server 250 MB and 30 Gig traffic, for the same amount of money.

Tamalyn: Try GlobalGold.co.uk, ask for Tim. He has boxes available with unlimited domains, mysql etc. I have been using them for over 2 years and doing great! I am in the USA but run UK sites..
