I wrote to an aff window merchant to see if I could get a clean datafeed - the one available is loaded with html and has junk all over the place - they replied with the following..

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> The Affiliate window data feed it generated from our own internal description
of products on a periodical basis.
We are aware that some of the descriptions contain internal links, this is for
    our own purposes, obviously.
We are currently unaware of any significant affiliates using the Datafeed and
have such not devoted the time to cleaning up the datafeed.

One thing you can do is to either not display the description, or if you are
able to, simply prepend the URL with the affiliate window URL before you write
the content out to the user (www.awin.com?mid=8&...&p=[original URL here}).
This will then be tracked under your affiliate ID.
Hope this helps, and hopefully you can get a suitable section of your site
    operational. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Just curious about anyone else's reaction to what they wrote?

I think they're unaware of any problems because no bugger uses most of the datafeeds there. The "clever stuff" doesn't seem to work too well.

The reply you got suggests to me, that they only update their datafeed when they can, and then dont compile it correctly.

Maybe no-one has actually used their datafeed yet.

If I got that reply, it would be a quick side step and find another merchant offering the same products with a decent feed.

You would have thought that merchants would do their utmost to help affiliates to promote their products.

But then again ... at least you got a reply from them!

The datafeeds aren't crap, I've only come across a handful that are no good so far - the fact that they are so accessable is a breath of fresh air.

The datafeeds at ukaffiliates on the other hand are a total joke. So few fields filled in, someone else's affiliate ID is in all of them, some don't even provide affiliate links!

Seems to me that their suggestion is a great one.

Assuming the links and their anchor text make sense in the context of another (your) site, prepending them with the aff code gives you richer content, and useful customer links.

In fact, I think I may have a couple of feeds where I should be doing that ...

Well, I was actually just echoing what I'd heard. For my merchants I manually make the deeplinks which isn't a particular problem.

I couldn't get the ShopWindow working very well.. OK actually it was fine but the products were hideously out of date so it was all a bit pointless.

I guess some of it's a little ramshackle, but actually the stuff that works is pretty good, easy to use and nice and fast.

After using a few datafeeds from various Merchants, I have found the easiest ones to implement are the ones from Merchants on ShareaSale.

Straightforward with relevent fields, and ther'e easy to get your hands on them, not like some Merchants who want you to walk over fire for them, or worse - charge you for them!!

They ARENT that neat I'm afraid. The html is so convoluted, it couldn't be done without spending hours editing each item by hand.

Besides, I want the output to suit my site, with their html it wouldn't - surely that makes sense.
