OK, it's not exactly parasitic, but I searched ABW for "pop-up", and most of the old discussions about pop-up blockers were here.

EarthLink Inc. said Monday it plans to offer its subscribers software to block Internet pop-up advertisements as part of a wider campaign to set itself apart from competitors.

Just another thing to worry about if you use pop-ups, I guess.

Nobody would have to worry about using any kind of POP IF there were not so many ABUSING the procedure with multiple ups and unders.

Earthlink, and alot of others, are on some kind of publicity kick, thinking they are going to look like the good guys and have everyone running to them to sign up. When, in all actuality, they could care less about who sends or receives pops.

The people who do not want any pops use program attachments to stop them or they download and use browsers that already block the things.

The Popup Blockers will sure put a dent in the Gator gravy train. I imagine even eBates and other Dupers will also find revenues shrinking as millions will look to install Popup killers which also kill pop unders. Thank Doubleclick and ValueClick for spawning pops after your click on one of their banners for anti-abuse reactions by web surfers.

Just thought of something (don;t laugh, it happens sometimes): there's probably millions of people out there who are just too new and/or internet illiterate to know there's a way of stopping the things. Earthlink's moves could have a ripple effect - when Joe Dummy talks to his neighbor/co-worker Fred Stupid and hears about his new software that kills popups, it may prompt him to look for a way of killing them himself.

Don't worry about the dummies finding out. The spammers will be informing them as even CJ has a AdBlocker merchant and so do the lesser PPC/PPA networks. It's also a media magnet with consumers up in arms about doing something to halt the Ad whores.
