I am involved in website promotion, using a pay-per-click program. Some of the traffic I have been paying for seems highly suspicious because of a large number of clicks on a not-so-popular term. Looking at my logs, I see that the data on referral sources for visitors has included the source "http:/"

I suspect that hotbar has been supplying clicks that are from people using Hotbar's browser enhancement -- or via some other way where the clickers have no true interest in visiting my site. My pay-per-click program denies that Hotbar is one of their partners, but I wonder if hotbar is somehow getting paid for clicks anyway.

Has anybody ever heard of anything like this?

Other than Overture or Google Adwords all other PPC keyword sellers can't muster up enough listing traffic to pay their bills. They therefore sometimes secretly syndicate their listings to drain the accounts with any scumbag BHO shopping bar or parasite seeking revshare on SE lookups.

We agree with Mike. If your going to do PPC, only use Overture, or Google.

You unfortunately learned and paid for an expensive education in PPC.
